Hi Guys,

Well its been a hard couple of weeks for me, even had some time off work to think about things.

My wife has always had problems with the Scoob, she's had to sit on foam pads to help her back problem (spinal fusion and ribs removed after a car smash). After another failed trip out the other week things came to a head.
To keep the Scoob would mean buying another decent largish car or subjecting her to pain every time we went out. Scoobysport could fit soft suspension to the Impreza for £2000 but I couldn't really see the point of having a soft Scoob. I suspect the Recaro's were part of the problem also.

I've been looking round for something quick but comfortable without costing the earth. Didn't rate the BMW's or Merc's at my price range and I don't like the BMW image thing.

So I've swapped the Scoob for a year old V6 Mondeo, 15k miles with all the toys. Its a Ford Direct car with 2 year warranty and RAC cover. The performance is good but not in the Scoob league, 0-60 in 8 secs and 140mph top speed and seems to have a good bit of mid range torque but gets a little breathless at the top end, silky smooth though.

Still plan to stay part of the community and you'll still see me at track days and some meets wearing my Subaru and scoobynet gear. LOL
The Nottingham lads have kindly agreed I can still go with them if I can keep up. LOL

Will have very fond memories of the Series McRae had some good days out and met some good friends.

The deal? I lost £3000 on the Scoob in 7 months

Cheers
Lee

from a subaru to a ford then eh thats the way to go lee

please don't take that comment the wrong way, i'm not the kind of person to take the pi$$ out of circumstances like that.

if it's any conselation (spelling) i think you've done the right thing getting shut, soft suspension would kill the handling and soft of defeat the point of owning a car like that.

Hope you enjoy the mondy. I went the other way, from Mondy ST24 to scooby. mondy was a good car and I do miss it, if I could combine the performance of the scooby with the luxury and refinement of the mondy then i'd be laughing. Maybe that'll come if they do a cosworth mondeo estate, now that would be a nice rival for the WRX/STi wagon.

Cool

Already got two Matt.

The second cars a small deisel for all the running about etc. Not to comfortable on longer trips.
Did consider swapping this for a bigger car but fuel and insurance costs put me off. The other reason is my wife didn't want me to swap her car as she didn't want anythimg bigger. Can't win eh?

Lads at work did suggest swapping the Wife? LOL

Mr 2wdcossie and Markus.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I'm going to let things settle a few weeks then mention getting a cheap track day car that I can trailer behind the Mondeo.

Talking

Or get a bike - that's a real uncompromised performance vehicle for road and track

Matt

P.S. No good I know if you can't ride but just a suggestion.....

why not woo her with all the gadgets and gizmos in the mondeo and while shes playing with em (ooer) and not listening properly (woman speciality) quickly flick the dictaphone on and get her to agree to a track car, then you'll have proof on tape when she denies it later on.

....a cosworth estate.....LOL

I'd love a Cossie estate, especially if it came without any skirts or spoilers.

Apparently a common fitment for E55 estates in Germany is an E200 badge .....

Cool

Some good ideas guys. LOL

Matt,
I can ride a bike but past history indicates I would kill myself very quickly. Both bikes I've had have not lived to tell the tale.

Phil,
Just what I was thinking, a cheap 2 litre Pinto engined Westfield could be just the ticket. I'll have to wait a while though.

Cheers

Bugger m8,

I'm sure you'll manage to arrive at some compromise.

Best of luck.

Ian.

Lee,

Sorry to here about you having to sell the Scoob, but not worth keeping if it causes your wife discomfort.

Hope your wife is now ok and that you too get over the loss of the Scoob. Enjoy the Mondeo.

Cheers,
Tom

P.S. At least you will not have to fill the Mondeo up as often as the Scoob.
