Default Do I remove bonnet latch when fitting aero catches

Quick question if I buy a set of aero catches with key entry do I then remove the oe bonnet catch,
just I've been offered a set of standard non key but don't really see the point as for sure would have to keep the oe bonnet latch

Whats the norm with these things do I keep the oe latch regardless of wether its key or non key aero latch.

Advise would be apprechiated..

On my forester I've got aerocatch'es with stock bonnet latch removed, because of a huge FMIC which meant the oe one had to go.

It would be a bit of a pita for you to open the hood with both latches since you first have to go out of the car to unlock the aerocatch, then into the car to pop the hood and then go out and open it..

When I drive I allways keep my aerocatches unlocked in case I need to get under the hood asap (IE Fire, heavy smoke etc)

With OE and aero you could have big problems getting the hood opened if you are stressed. =)
Hope this helps some, sorry about my grammar, english is not my mother tongue =)

I've kept the latch but ditched the pull cable mech and catch on my road rallycar although I use bonnet pins it's just for extra insurance, if I get a problem under the bonnet on a night event and forget to fasten them at least there's a good chance the latch would stop the bonnet flying up.
I haven't used aero catches so not sure how obvious it is if the they're not fastened properly?? If I was to fit a pair on my Impreza I'd probably keep the latch again for the reason I stated but I guess it's personal preference.

I think he meant fastened as if "is the hood going to fly open when I start to drive or are they locked ?"

Well to lock them you turn the locking barrel 90 degrees, so it would stay pointing in different directions if locked or unlocked.. Sorry, I suck at explaining :P

I havn't had any problems with it tho. I usually only lock the drivers side one when I lock them too

Basicly what I'm trying to say is is there any point getting non key entry unless it a garaged track car ... I'm thinking key entry would be better for road car parked in a drive

This is sort of what I'm asking also I mean going round the front opening areo latches then back in car to pull the oe latch open then back round front to open bonnet al seems abit long winded..

Surely I can just remove the oe bonnet latch and fit key entry aero catches ??

Yes that is the setup I have.
Reason is that the latch had to go because of the intercooler :-)

Edit:and yes reason for me fitting locking ones is because it's a road going car which I park at malls and stuff and I don't trust people so I needed to be able to lock in order to keep my turbo

I'm sort of asking multiple questions .

1) do I need to keep stock bonnet catch

2) am I better off with lockable aero catches for a road car

1.You do not need it with the aerocatches..
2.Unless there is a reason for cutting holes in your hood you would be better off leaving it stock if you know what I mean.
I had to because intercooler :-P

And yes they come with templates.

For me the Aero catches are simply to stop the bonnet moving about and lifting at speed, so non locking. Piece of cake to pop them both open first then operate the standard bonnet catch. And I'd like to shake the hand of any thief that could steal a turbo off a parked car!

Would I be able to open via oe latch first then the aero catches or would it be the opposite way round

Pop the catches then pull oe latch lever.

However, I once forgot and pulled the oe lever first and then popped the catches and it opened.
To be honest, does it really matter ? The non lockable catches look better which in reality is what its all about. Yes it takes an extra second to jump out, pop the catches and then lean in and pull the lever buy hey ho.

Thanks matty, that's what I wanted to here I was pretty sure it would be that was round just wanted to be 100%

Most people seem to leaning towards the non lockable and keeping the oe latch if posible which I can do, looks like I will be going down that route then

to be honest that's what I would do on a normal road car, you don't want any 'get out clause' invoked by your insurance company if the worst was to happen

That was a joke, but you know if the right person gets to open a hood, he could have lots of fun with vacuum lines and stuff...

They look good this way too

And I had to mount them that way to cover up the holes from the old ones which the previous owner had put on..

Which I don not have any better pictures of...
