had plenty of grip left on the front two tyres!! hit the central barrier and bounced onto curb near a wall . lucky curb damaged and smashed wheels instead of ME and the car.

I was warned off Team Dynamics wheels for exactly this reason. Light but fragile

They look disproportionately fcukced to me, apparently Team Dynamics wheels are known for being weak.

Everything is repairable...if you have deep pockets. I reckon that's an insurance write-off.

Parts, labour, paint, it'll need jigging, I reckon you're looking upwards of 4k for it done properly...

Tyre blew and started swerving.saw the tyre roll away. Avoided the first spin towards the wall on the left but couldnt avoid hitting the curb to my right which led to bouncing off and hitting curb on the left. Wheels are ****e. If i had better tyres maybe it would have been fine.
Very unlucky but lucky to survive it and thankflully didnt hit anyone.
Thinking whats the best way to recover loss? Repair or sell as parts? It was at about 40-50mph. No air bags came out or windows smashed.

Er am I being daft here or should this not be in the hands of your insurance company? The bill to repair that vastly outweighs anything you are going to save by not going through your insurance!!

Hmmm thanks. 4k to repair wont be worth it lol. Probably cheaper to get a non runner and transfer engine. Ecu n gear box? What sort of cost would that be?

Do 04 wrx engines drop into other older subarus like the classics?

I have done my best searching for a few days so plz excuse my newbie questions

Claim on your insurance and as shreksta said, ask for the salvage back then break and get some cash back.

Nope. On 50mph dual carriageway. 2lanes as it goes over the flyover. Was driving slower than lorrys in front to keep my distance and it was bit icy.

Shows u dont have to speed to have an accident 😞

Insurance may write it off though, I think that's what he means by "repairable". With these cars being worth significantly more in component parts, it's well worth keeping the car even if they do write it off.

Yes I know, but that can't happen until they have written it off. The matter still needs to be in their hands first off!

Im happy to accept a loss. Just learnt an expensive lesson. Do not use ****ty tyres which i never do. But since i bought it off a trustworthy person i thought they will be fine till grip is low. Also should have got the car RAC CHECKED FOR PEACE OF MIND. cant believe this happenned. Thanks everyone for your replies. I will strip it for parts.

First, sorry about the accident mate.
As they say, there's no point in crying over spilt milk and looking early for ways of handling this is a good start.

You've said you're worried about the insurance loading next time, but at the moment you don't know what it would be.

So as a starting point get some soundings from your broker or company as to:
  • whether it is a write-off (just to confirm it);
  • how much they'd pay out (on the basis it's a write-off);
  • how much they'd let you have it back for;
  • how much it would affect your premium on a similar car.
With those answers you'd know where you stand financially, now and in the future.

While they're coming back with those figures have a ferret around in the Sales section, and other places such as E-bay, Breakers etc. to get an idea of how much you could realistically get for breaking the car (you might even see how much a breaker would give for it).

You'll then be in a position to have a very good idea of the best option for you.

I hope it's an option which makes the outcome not as bad as it might look at the mo, and that it gets sorted quickly.

Toyo t1r i thinks. He said front set came off his friends evo8 because the tyres he had were too low apparently. Makes me very suspicious. Especially because when he sold it he warned me about the front tyres. Hmm

I don't get all this talk of the front tyres??? Were they legal or not?

If they were legal tread limit then it's just bad luck that this has happened, you may even have ran over something which punctured the tyre.

If they were borderline or illegal tread then you only have yourself to blame for buying and driving the car.

That's how I sees it.

Was the tyre low on air, as thats one of the biggest courses of blow outs, my mates had 2 both time running around on tyres low pressure

As for insurance go on confussed.com add you had a crash, see what difference it makes, i had a crash in a car before bought first subaru didn't make much difference in price
