Tamiya Subaru model kit - does anyone assemble these?
Hi everyone,
I bought my son a Subaru Impreza WRC '99 Kit and it had not been touched for about 4-5 months now.
I thought about doing it myself for a Christmas present but I'm currently too busy...instead of this being a waste, does anyone know places where I could give it to them to spray and assemble it?
Regards,
Subaru Colletor 555.

I bought it from Modelzone when they were closing down so no luck there...I live in Kent and it is model car not an RC one I'm afraid.

Get the instructions out and have a good read through them, get the bits you need to do the job and just have a go at it.
I've built countless scale and rc models from 1/24th scale trucks to 6' span aerobatics planes and helicopters.
The first one is always the most challenging and equally the most rewarding. Just have a go...
If it was RC and you were closer I'd come and do it for you in a couple of hours.

Have to confess that the shells are as much of a consumable as the wheels tyres when I raced. A quick two or three colour squirt, a couple of decals and it was on the car. It only takes a badly timed overtake to end up in a bump that would take the shine off any paint job. Equally, it's not easy to pick out the details you've spent hours on when you go whizzing past.

ooh that does look very nice, I wish mine did
I am going to try and ring some model shops around my area this weekend to see if this is possible, otherwise I am going to have to bite the bullet and attempt it.

In fairness you're likely to end up being charged a small fortune for someone to build it for you. Go and pick up the bits you need to do it and maybe even a cheap kit or two to have a practice on and just enjoy the process.
A big hint that has saved me many a time is to stop the moment you start getting frustrated by it. Go and have a coffee/pee or watch some TV and then go back to the problem with fresh eyes and hands.
There are very few truly difficult kits to build so take your time, follow the manual and treat each section as a model in its own right. Finish the part you're working on before moving on and then by the time you're ready to do the final assembly you're looking at the finished article.

Yep I build these, a true model builder would do it for the enjoyment of the build not for money. I currently have five Subaru kits to build and built three.
Only problem is time, for the model to be built to high standard it takes quite some time. Mine took about 3 months but that wasn't continuous building.
Here's the ones I've built
And
And the replica of my old classic
