I have always serviced my own cars as my parents have a double garage with a pit, so I feel lazy if I don't use it!

Anyway, its been 6 years since I had my last Impreza but it was nice to be back! It was like saying hello to an old friend.

Luckily, my current Impreza (05WRX) is in good nick underneath, with no visable oil leaks (checked the dreaded rocker covers), spark plugs looked good as did the fuel in the fuel filter.

Am I sad for actually enjoying servicing my car?

The wife thinks I'm very sad. Do I care - I wouldn't own an Impreza if she did!

It's just so nice to own a 'special' car again rather than the fords, nissans etc that I have had since my last Impreza. Servicing those always belt like a chore.

Although saying that, I was cursing the individual coil pack design of the newage. The rear nearside coil was a tad awkered to get seated properly back onto the new plug. Got there in the end though. What I did notice though was that the old plugs were PFR6G's and not the PFR6B's that they should have been. Anyone know the difference between B's and G's? The gap on the old plugs was also a little to big at 0.9mm and would explain why there was some small hesitation every now and then from the EJ20. She is as smooth as you like now though as I gapped them to 0.7mm.

I know some say 0.8mm, but I always gapped my plugs to 0.7mm in my old classics with no issues.

She is also started a little bit quicker. Usually when you changed the fuel filters, it takes a few turns to fill and therefore fire, but she started on the first turn with 1 second.

Very satisfying feeling.

Oh, special design eh? I know both ends are platinum tipped, so may be that's the difference.

If I had my own pit, I would be in there cleaning the bottom of my car! Very envious

The G's were apparently the correct Subaru Spec ones for my old v4 Type R, I put B's in as all the 'specialists' told me if would be fine, it never ran as well, put G's back in and all was well.

No idea why mind

Interesting.
Always used to fit 7B's in my old classic Imprezas without issue.

And as stated, my wrx is now running smoother on the 6B's than the 6G's, although that was probably due to the massive gap on the old plugs! But there was no way that I was going to remove and refit old spark plugs!

Easy enough on a Ford Focus but not exactly a 5 minute job on an Impreza!

I service all my cars and bikes .......and even do the odd re-spray(with 100 litre compressor and proper spray guns ...no aerosol crap ) to keep them in prestine condition .

its a great feeling when you know the job is done correctly and to your standards
