Scuse me if this takes place already, but would it not be a good idea if we were to look at doing some bulk purchases ?

The idea being that if we can drum up enough interest in a product we phone around and see who's willing to give us a decent discount ?

Sound like a good idea ?

I have noticed people recently asking about tyres, turbo timers, exhausts etc and this sounds like a nice way for us to get some buying power and save some money to boot.

 

We already get some good discounts from certain suppliers, most of which have been noted in here before.

Bulk purchases are usually only good for goods ordered from overseas, where the relatively high shipping costs can be spread over a larger number of people, and making for some very good cost savings. Any bulk discount is nice to have as well of course

I can see this scheme working well for hard to obtain (or large) parts from Japan or Australia

The only flaw is that someone has to do all the phoning around to find the best deal, get lists of names of people interested in the products, get money off them before placing the order (remembering that many will probably wish to pay by credit card), arrange for collection, customs clearance, and then onward delivery within the UK (or Europe).

Any willing volunteers out there, and any ideas on products ?

I don't mind devoting time / phone calls sourcing stuff etc.

I don't think we would be limited to large or overseas items, i'm pretty sure if we spoke to pete c and said we have 10 people wanting SS bacl boxes he's be interested to talk. (only an example as i do not know if he discounts already).
