Exclamation HELP? Removing bonding glue from car paint work

Hi all.

I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

Some serious glue remover, or re-spray the roof?

that looks messy, you can get stuff called label remover and that is great stuff for getting labels and glue and marker pen off the stainless stuff I fabricate at work but I don't think even that would shift that

A plastic scraper might help to scrape the glue of the car without scratches, like any given icescraper, or even a square piece of ABS for example. Put a wet towel (water needs to be warm) over the glue for a while, it'll get soft an come of easy.

I'd stay away from aiming blowdryers or heat guns direct at paint, mabye on top of the plastic spoiler bit, to loosen the glue underneath so that you don't tear the paint of when removing it.

Glue remover removes paint as well, maybe even before than the glue is gone..

Just found some more info:
Gasoline, rubbing alcohol and a special 3M adhesive remover will do the job and keep your paint proper.

At work in the bodyshop, I would heat with a heat gun, use a new plastic filler spreader to remove the bulk, then use turdis ( glue remover) on a micro fibre to make the area damp, use a second clean micro fibre to buff clean.

I would try warming it and using a spreader and finish off with a eraser wheel (caramel wheel) or Straight in with the eraser wheel.

I managed to remove the diffuser fine, slowly slowly cutting through the top layer of glue.

So the glue remaining appears to be construction strength product, why oh why would some use that! Double sided tape would have done a better job!

Anyway thanks everyone for the info. Thinking about it more I might take the car to a local body shop and get them to sort it or at least offer advice further to what you guys have said. I suppose there is no harm in trying the above options, as any damage to the paint at all will result in it being resprayed anywAy

So it's either a mint removal job, or a paint job as there is no compromise

Rob
