Default Sti Rear spoiler

Hi Folks
Had a little search but never really came up with any answers.

Just bought the above spoiler to put on my 54 blobeye wrx.

I will be removing the standard spoiler (with risers) and I notice that there are slightly more holes in the Sti one. Obviously as it goes right over the boot lid.

Stupid question I know but is there anybody thats already done this change and could just give me peace of mind on what Im doing. Im guessing I will need to drill some holes but is there anything else I should do like sealant anywhere etc.

Just want to get it right first time.

Thanks for your patience.

Dave

Could you not source the sti bootlid that was with the spoiler? Yes you will need to drill some extra holes. Measure 3 times and cut "drill" once, I would make a pilot hole with a small size 2 drill bit and work up on size, don't use pressure other than the weight of the drill, use masking tape over the area. I would use paint and a small brush to seal the paintwork. Use a bead of Puriflex, (Cicaflex) around all bolt holes and all the way round the base of the spoiler. Tighten it down a bit at a time with the bolts in order, a bit like doing a cylinder head, so as not to distort it. ie: loosely tighten first then same one on opposite side, move to second, then same one opposite side etc etc, finally fully tightening all 6. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!

Wipe off excess sealant with PLENTY of paper towels soaked in white spirit.

Just another little thing... I bought the spoiler from a breaker on Ebay and it is in mint condition so very pleased.

When I look at the underside I can see the slots where the bolts get located. A couple are still in place but in a few of the slots there are these little nipple like plastic things.

I thought they might just be for locating the spoiler when fitting but Im not really sure.

In the box of bolts there are also long ones and short ones.

Sorry for being a pain but just want to get this right.

If memory serves there are 12 bolts holding the STi spoiler in place...........

I'd look for an STi bootlid

Yes, so would I. The fooking things nearly always end up leaking.
And that's from experience.

I fitted an aluminium spec c bootlid to my sti that had originally had a low level spoiler on, the bolts in the slots are easily bought from Subaru as well as the plastic clips, there is some plastic sockets in the boot to fit these into and each bolt has a foam washer around it for sealing, the spoiler itself only has a small foam seal and doesn't need completely sealing as water must be able to get out. Not difficult to do but easiest way is to put a blob of paint on ends of bolts and lower it onto bootlid then it's easy to see where to drill

Thanks guys,

Gonna have a go this weekend.

Managed to remove the big carbon fibre scoop (that was mastiked to death) and replace with original so my confidence is booming lol.
