Default What engines fit what cars & gearboxes?

Following on from my earlier thread: https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...-worth-it.html

If I was looking to a replacement 2nd hand engine to fit my 99 classic T2000. Would any 2.0T fit? Say one from a 1996 JDM STI? I know there have been a few changes over the years and I know the STI's used a different gearbox and turbo (and ECU I assume).

But on the basis that my T2000 shell is completely rust free and apart from some lacquer peeling on the door mirror, it's in very good shape condition wise.

Could I simply build it up to STI or better spec by bolting in a different engine and maybe a gearbox. I know it wouldn't have DCCD, but I could live with that.

Heads will be the big issue they are different depending on the. Any 5 speed will fit any ej20 engine.

You could fit everything from an sti and have sti power

^^ As above.

All blocks including the 2.5 will fit fine. The problem comes with the inlet manifolds which are fitted to the heads. You would need to fit your MY99 heads onto the block (If the donor engine wasn't MY99/00) to fit the inlet manifold so all the wiring etc fitted.

All gearboxes fit but you would need to correctly match the rear diff to the new gearbox. DCCD boxes require more work and matching prop / diff / hubs / driveshafts. 6 speeds fit also but need the same work as DCCD boxes.

In reality STI engines (Classic) have no real advantage over T2000 / WRX. Different years had different aggression of cams (you would lose this if you changed the heads). The 'forged' pistons are **** poor forged at best and still attached to standard rod, bearings and crank so no real benefit.

Newage engines are different as there is a great difference between STI and WRX engines.

Thanks for the info. So on this basis a WRX engine from a new age would also drop in ok to my 99? I'm just looking at options right now.

im thinkging sbout the same thing mate, (conserning the inlet manifold) say for example a 96 sti or wrx block into a 1999 uk t would the 96 inlet manifold fit that comes with the engine literally change the whole engine block and ecu would that not work, i though any closed deck block assuming its in good condition and healthy would take say 350/350 easily and safely? i already munched through my standard uk box so i have a jdm vb3aa close ratio and a spare vbcaa, im wanting to add a td06 to my 99 engine (its 276bhp on a td04 with all supporting mod + have the turbo fmic already sitting there just gotta save up for the re map but im only wanting 330 ish when its all done but im thinking the internals of my 99 wont take the power,(also have a spare uk 1999 engine was either going to rebuild/forge or save up and get a cdb , which year is best to use (whole sti engine)

As above any short block would fit, no najor difference between the classic engines really, if not going for major power then a newage v8(?) sti shortblock will be perfect, alot cheaper than going fully forged and they are capable of doing upto 450bhp as pistons and rods(i think) are semi forged

Yes, providing you swap your heads onto the block.
