Default Opinions please?

Evening all hopefully in a few weeks I will have a decision to make and would like your thoughts on what you may do. I currently have a classic turbo 2000 running around 330bhp and in a few weeks may have around 5-6k to spend do I go to the next level mods wise on my classic or buy a newer model impreza sti or similar. If the latter what model would you all suggest I but and also how much bhp would the newer model need to be as quick as my classic. Thanks in advance for any replys I receive as I really am struggling what to do.

Was hoping for a better response if I'm being honest to help me make up my mind but maybe not.

Flog yours and buy a sorted type r or blob sti, classic 2000 is not particularly special.

What mods you got? may be worth returning it to standard and keeping some of your mods for the new car or selling them on.

Rule of thumb for newage v's classic is 50bhp more required in the newage, but tbh that's bollax on the road, because what you lose in power is made up for by the better chassis and brakes on the newage.

What's the main use for the car, classics are getting on a bit these days and I wouldn't want one as my only car.

Keep the Classic and buy a Blob or Hawk. The Classic can be the rag around car and the Blob or Hawk can be the one that you 'try' to take easy

Unless, of course, the classic has the brakes and suspension sorted?

But I agree with your last comment.

I'm a classic fan, but i'm also a realist and no amount of whiteline goodies, suspension upgrades or weld in cages can stiffen the chassis by 120%, there's also the fact that everything that can be done to improve a classics handling and braking can be done to a newage.

At the end of the day Classics as I said above are getting on and technology and chassis design has moved considerably since their inception particularly in the 7/8yrs between the two, you only have to look at the difference in the computers used in the design processes of the various times to see that, I would however take a classic over a newage if I could only chose one.

But I am an old school rear wheel drive ford boy.
