Are all 2.5 STi's limited to 155 MPH?
Or was it just Spec D's?

A 'discreet' version of the STI was made for a more conservative market. It is similar to the Japanese-spec A-Line except it had a regular WRX spoiler on the boot, silver wheels (not Gold) and no rear roof vane. As standard it has projector-style fog lights, Smartnav with touch screen operation, Vehicle Tracker, and safe speed system. A 200W Pioneer DEH-P70BT head unit, iPod adapter and Bluetooth phone connection were also included. The interior featured standard leather trim on the seats and doors, Auto climate control and extra sound insulation. It was limited to a run of 300 cars in only Crystal Grey Metallic so therefore is even rarer than the RB320. Power on this model is rated at 276 bhp (206 kW). It has a 0–60 time of 5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (electronically limited). New retail price was £28,450.
I always thought the top speed was 158mph so why bother limiting the car to 155?

My 2008 hatch made it to 155 (on a private closed road of course ).
It was not so much "hitting the limiter" but more a case that it had hardly anything left to give so I would say 158 / 160 would be about the max without a limiter.
I would guess they say "electronically limited" to make them sound as good as Audi's / BMW's etc which, if de-limited, will hit 180 or even more. Standard scoobs wont do that much but sounds nice to be "limited"

I think the RB320 was limited to 158mph although there geared for 183.4 mph. I've taken mine to 155mph and it was still pulling. It was me that bottled out in fear of plod spotting me.

I saw the maths worked out somewhere that if you hit the rev limit in 6th gear with the ratio diffs and 18" wheels fitted the theoretical top speed was 183.4 mph. I'm not suggesting what power would be needed to pull that speed, just the geared theoretical speed. I believe one of the owners club members clocked (satnav) 175mph in germany and still had revs to spare.

Mine was still pulling at 150mph (germany ring trip ) but I backed off as it felt bloody light and I thought the bonnet was going to tear off!!!. I was however surprised that is was still pulling well at that.

I've seen 'around 158-159' on my sti unsure whether the limiter was in force but just felt like it had run out of puff.

After my Spec D had an engine rebuild I maxed the speedo out at 160... It kept pulling and the needle went beyond the marked numbers. Quite what speed it was doing is anyone's guess as I'd take the reading with a pinch of salt at those speeds.
All on private land of course
Our 911 Carrera S would allegedly go north of 186mph with 350bhp - but I reckon you'd need a very long road and a good bit of wind behind to manage that. Going off that and considering the STI produces a fair bit of power, I'd imagine a PPP could manage somewhere around the 165 or so - conditions and aerodynamics allowing.

lets face it, the scoob would be running out of breath after 130/140... hitting 160 would be more a case of building up to it on a very long road.

I'm convinced after hearing and looking into it that's the reason my Spec D went pop. I regularly used to cruise at high speed long distance in it for long periods, that engine must have seriously lacked a working intercooler for hours at a time.

I think 8-10% was just a random figure the poster pulled out of the air. This sounds very excessive to me but the best way to check is by using your satnav. Just sit at different speeds through out the speed range and check speedo readings against your satnav. Mine reads about 3 mph fast at 100 mph, so 3 %.

These figures are from my jdm sti 2.0 litre which has a km to mph converter fitted, but only measured with a tomtom, speedo reading first 32/30 43/40 54/50 65/60 75/70 86/80 96/90 106/100 117/110 so my % were out a bit. think the police allow 10% for speedo error but may be wrong, but I still think a speedo reading of 165 will give a true speed between 152/155.

174 is the top speed I've had recorded on the ecutek monitor, and when checked against a TomTom was 5mph out ( was not checked on the same day, was a different run out ) iirc so on that basis 169, which is still good going on a standard internal engine , at 140 its still pulling like a train and the speedo is clearly still sweeping not "struggling" it starts to slow after 160 region, and one of the speedo apps on the iPhone gives the same reading as the satnav so it must be pretty close I would imagine, car is a newage 2.0 jdm blob with lm450, all tests done on private land

Mine is a 2005 Blob and is still doing ok at 140 but at 150 you can really feel the brick like aerodynamics of the Scoob hitting a wall. I think with a tail wind an indicated 160 may have been on the cards.....just.

I still can't bring myself to max my car, as I'm always worried the scoop will pull the bonnet off- it sits about 1" up at the corners at 90mph already! Using both iPhone and TomTom GPS, I have a 4mph difference at 100mph (I live on IOM don't forget) and also 4mph out at 30mph. So my speedo is perfectly accurate, except the needle is on the shaft wrong. Unadjustable as well.
The aerodynamics of the hawk are a lot better as I can see the airflow hits the screen lower down. The front of the bonnet line of the Blob causes more turbulence and that's why the higher scoop is needed. However, I'd need to put pins in and a FMC and remove the scoop to really feel safe at max speed.
