Tricky question.

Choice of brakes are very much one of personal taste.
1. What are you going to use them for(track days, fast road, pootling about?)
2. What's your main concern(stopping power, longevity, dust, are they good from cold etc)
3. How much do you want to spend?
4. Do you want to replace just the disks, pads or the whole kit?

Have a look in the wheels and brakes forum, that should be able to answer most of your questions.

If it were me personally and I wanted to keep 16 inch wheels, I would go for the 4 pot AP/Brembo kit from either scoobymania or scoobysport. If money was no object 17 inch wheels and 6 pot AP kit from either of the above.

Hi Andrew

The Brembo caliper uses a deeper pad than the AP caliper, providing a bigger swept area of disc and therefore more braking torque.

Both kits use the same size disc (the biggest that will fit under a 16" wheel) and we also get AP to manufacture the discs for this kit.

This kit was also designed to be used with Pagid's "Blue" RS42 pad.

I'm sure you will be pleased with either kit.

Andy

Just fitted Brembos with AP discs & Pagid Blue pads. They are excellent, I had the Brembo/Brembo/Pagid set up on my 22B but this combination is even better. Went out on track last week and 2 of us tried but got no fade, soft pedal or strange noises. Brilliant buy them,

Jack

Hiya Andy,
I trust this is for the 22B that you took around Silverstone. I'm using the AP kit from Scoobymania, and have been very happy with it. Those having problems with brakes have generally gone for a mix of caliper/disks etc. I can't remember seeing any complaints about the full AP kit (4 pots for 16inch wheels). I've seen several people owning brembo kits end up with warped or cracked disks, so would advise AP disks, which you could use with calipers from AP or Brembo.

Hopefully see them on display at a track soon.

Triggaaar

We have been using AP's excellent discs with this kit for 18 months and have not had a single cracked or warped disc in that time.

Many owners have done LOTS track days with this kit, all with faultless service.

The only single problem we ever had was one disc which had a manufacturing fault (Disc Thickness Variance) and this was immediately replaced under warranty. This is a less than 1% failure rate and was not a result of any usage.

The AP discs for their own kit those that they make for the Scoobysport kit are not interchangeable, due to different offsets and the different swept area.

Pete,
That's why I reccomend AP disks, ahead of Brembo disks.

The cracked/warped disks I refer to are from Brembo kits that have Brembo disks, not the kits that you were referring to on this thread (as you said you got AP to manufature discs for both kits).

Pete's AP/Brembo kit is truly great.

Did a full tank of fuel non-stop on Donnington GP circuit with absolutely no hint of fade.

The brakes outlast everything else now.

Pete Croney, your car looked the biz at the PE session. You say that your kit uses the largest disc possible behind a 16 inch wheel, but I think your kit uses a 305mm disc and I've fitted a 310mm disc behind mine.A small detail in the bigger picture no doubt.
