Help choosing car, scaring myself reading stuff
Hi guys
Looking for a new car,
Basically down to two
Blob 2005 80k wide track dccd
Or
Hawk 2.5 sti spec d
Both nice cars but keep reading the 2.5 is a terrible engine etc
Is this true or simply due to me reading forums
Going looking tomorrow

My Spec D has been fine. Good oils / fuels / no silly mods should see you ok.
Mine is totally standard. They do use a drop of oil, so you need to keep a safe eye on it.
Standard internals are good for 340bhp max I see on here, but that might be pushing it.
Don't let the scaremongers put you off, if you buy a 2.5 that's not been "got at" and has a FSH, it will be a good powerplant.
Got a link to the Spec D advert?

Knocking rear shocks is pretty common, and can be sorted by replacing the chocolate inner strut grease with decent stuff, then modding the rear shock with grease nipples - plenty on here about that I'm sure.
A good listen to the engine from cold start up, no smoke etc.

Spec D's are becoming rarer, and I think one day will be quite sought after :

Luck of the draw, you either join a forum to complain about a fault or you join a forum as an interest.
I would say the majority join website with faults and that's how they start
Believe me this forum made me a paranoid wreak, but in reality I had nothing to worry about

Both really nice cars. For me the Spec D has always been my favourite Impreza though. Something very cool about being an STI that doesnt shout about it.
That is a bummer. Enough to influence your entire decision on a car? I guess one thing to consider is future resale value. Its £500 now, whats a car like that going to be worth in a few years when the tax is £750 and the resale value would only be £3500? Worthless?
That's my other thinking tbh will it kill the value or is it rare enough to demand the premium, ESP when the wide track can be taxed for 270 for the yr.

The wide track is the better option mate as its more reliable plus it will be a lot easier to sell on. The amount of people looking for one on here at the moment backs that up
Also the Spec D will be harder to sell on...
I wouldn't take the risk tbh.
