P1 steering slower than STI?
#1
I've read a few times that one critisism of the P1 is that it's steering is slower than the STI's. If true, do both the STI 4 door and STI Type R have the quicker rack, or just the Type R? Also, how quick is the steering on the standard WRX or UK car compared to these other models?

The P1 has exactly the same steering rack as the STi.
The only differences between the STi rack and a UK spec rack is the rubber bushes on the UK and solid on the STi. This is why the P1 and STi feels better than a UK car.
The 13:1 quick rack as far as I ,know is only fitted to the RA and 22B.

I think both STI 4 and 2 door have the quick steering rack.I presume the P1 has the same systtem as the standard UK model.Another reason why the P1 is often called a detuned STi.I have also read that the quick steering rack can be fitted aftermarket but costs over £1500.

I'm sure you guys are right(as I am a number one muppet) but I have an issue of Car magazine that says " its a shame that the P1 did not get the quick steering rack of the STi's" But as we all know the motoring press often get it wrong. My apolagies to Scoobysnacks for inaccurate info(I try my best!!)

From my reading of Car magazine it meant the quick rack from the 22b.
For a 'standard' Sti the steering can be made to feel sharper (although not faster per se) by having the anti-lift kit and anti-bumpsteer mods both fitted.
There was a good rumour that Prodrive had bought a large number of anti-lift kits - whether they fitted them or used them as a basis to design a Prodrive version on the same principles......

Just to addd that all type rs, have the quick rack too. And RAs but not v limited RAs such as Morays . he he he.
That is why it was a shame because the sti 5 type r on which the P1 is based, comes with it, yet subaru decided to remove it. .
I drove a car with a normal rack the other day, and I had forgotten how different it feels.
If you can find one cheap, buy it immediately.
