Hello! new type R owner
Hi guys, thought i'd actually do an intro post...
im Ash, 24 and from Wiltshire. I bought a mates Type R a few months ago who's had it for 6 years, purchased it from David Hendry cars and was the first UK owner.
He bought it as a completely standard V4 (i think), ran it for a couple of years like that until a trackday at Castle Combe the engine seized up and i towed it home for him back to Calne. He then invested a few wedge in a properly built 2.5 lump to the following spec.
2.5 engine, cosworth pistons, rods and tripple plate headgaskets, ARP rod bolts, Version 9 nitrated crank, uprated oil pump, type R heads with solid lifters, 3 angle valve seats, 600cc lateral performance injectors, 3" stainless exhaust, exedy organic clutch and Apexi ecu with commander.
RR'd at 370hp/400lbft
its running 1.35 bar of boost on the standard turbo/top mount I/C and still bolted upto the 5 speed type R DCCD box. i think he ran out of money to go 6 speed!
really fancy investing in a FMIC, 6 speed box and a bigger turbo.
anyway this is a picture of her, the wheels are coming off tomorrow to fit the P1 proderive wheels i have just had back from refurb and new tyres
sorry these are only Iphone pics

wheels ready to fit...

and for my proper toy....
My peugeot 205 rallye, people local to wilts will prob have seen it around Castle Combe at most action and track days. giving these turbo jap cars a pasting!
2.1 16V steel bottom end 306 GTI-6 engine built by Sandy brown, 50mm Jenvey throttle bodies etc etc, 230HP, 740kg

while i was building it

and the daily company car/tow car for trackdays along way away..

Not much for the wheels, they are standard across the STI range so probably 50-80 quid each depending on condition.
As for the 6 speed, turbo, fmic, you need a little more than 3k, the turbo on that car will do at its max about what the engine can do max, if you want a strong engine/gearbox/clutch/brakes etc, budget for around about 10k, you picked the wrong car if you want to modify a version 3 type R to more than around 330-350bhp (note 350bhp is about as much as the engine can do safely, some do slightly more, some do considerably less).
Oh and for the 10k you would have to chuck at that type R, you could easily get a nice Spec C which is a far better car to start with

wheels ain't worth much to be honest bud, 3k should easily see you 400+bhp with plenty of torque as you are already on a fully forged 2.5 which would be adequate at 450bhp, a 20g would be £350-£500 depending on market/condition/brand, 6 speed uk box £1600 to deal with the power and a fmic £160 job done same set up i have in my road car and it makes for a lot of fun,

Tony he's not running a standard engine, read the post, it has a forged 2.5.
it looks like its up to the job, just the FMIC and 6 speed needed. Nice cars by the way

Still cost more than 3k, he will need brakes (still has the 2pots on the front and single on the rear, may need a rear diff, think they are different on the v3's to the 4/5/6 type R's), plus suspension and something better than an apexi (and id not go with a 20G id be looking at a newer billet turbo), but has the block been linered? we all know how weak the 2.5's are unless they have had it sorted.

You are on borrowed time
just hope it doesnt let go when you least expect it (you dont have to be ragging the car either, it can just eject a rod for the hell of it)
It's a 98 type R but on a personilsed plate. Has 4 pots on the front btw.
1800 should see me 6 gears and then I can sell by 5 speed DCCD box. So 1500 should see a turbo and FMIC?

205 looks very nice, can't see those power figures on the standard turbo and top mount though. I got my six speed for 1k off eBay, the dccd box is probably about £450-500 if sold with diff, got an MD555 for a steal at £650 and you can pickup a fmic for around £150, then you've got fitting, possibly clutch, possibly new ecu and mapping to factor in.
I'd look at upgrading the 4 pots as well depending what pad/disc combo you've got
