Scooby Vs Boulders
#1
Hi all
I was blasting around some B-roads tonight, when, round a corner, i saw something had hit the verge and there was dirt and 3 large black objects in the road.
Oh no [edited] !
I was doing about 60...
I swerved to miss two of the objects, but hit the third with both right side wheels...
ThummP!
Large noise.... I had images of the suspension pulled out of line..
Drove on for a bit.. everything felt fine.
No knocking.
Stopped.. checked the wheels... all seems ok (in the dark)
Went back to see the object... the two that i missed were clumps of dirt.
The one i hit was a BIG boulder...
I take it that the Scooby suspension/wheels are tougher than the average Vectra...?
OR is there anything that I should get a garage to check?
I tried to (slowly) drive over the boulder... couldnt... I ended up pushing it... scraping the road... (b4 chucking it back into the field).
If the scooby is stronger than the average car... big thumb up

I'd get the car checked out, just in case it's damaged something. It might feel ok just now, but that's not to say parts of the suspension, wheel tyres, etc may not have been damaged. It's peace of mind.
I'd hate to have suspension failure mid bend.
Now the real muppet thing to do was to have driven over the boulder again just to see what would happen
Speak to Mr Cookie, he knows all about Boulders

Hi
Cheers - the car is going in a week tomorrow to get the bonnet resprayed...
Ill get then to check it out...
Both sides (thinking back.. was a muppet! :P)
I have let the garage know about the juddering clutch... pretty bad now... any way for me to indicate to them that I know about Subaru UK's recommended fix: replace clutch with P1's clutch - other than just telling them?

I did something similar recently but caught a kerb with the nearside....bill..£3200..
OUCH!!!
New wheels suspension and a bit of bodywork.
On bright side no injuries, didn't feel a thing. Until I got my wallet out
I'd recommend an immediate inspection to be on the safe side.

As I understand it, Scoobies are not as tough as everyone thinks. Some of the suspension mountings are designed to collapse rather than cause major chassis damage as CLS can testify.
You need to get the car booked in for a geometry check / adjust which will set you back about £70.00
I had a similar instance where I was overtaking a ***** in a 4x4. He swerved over the white line forcing me onto the grass verge. A huge BANG as all the suspension bottomed out and the car seemed to handle a little different afterward. The geometry check sorted this all out.
One other interesting thing was that the garage doing the check said that every setting was out - almost as if the car had never been set-up properly in the first place ??
The car drove and handled 10 times better after the check.
