Default Widetrack sti or pre 04 blob?

Hi, am looking for a blob sti. If I find a really nice sti that is not a widetrack with prodrive alloys suspension etc (maybe 53/04 model) is it worth buying or waiting for another car that is a wide track.

Am looking at a few tomorrow so just need some quick advice.

Thanks all.

it entirely up to you, it depends what you looking for in , i went for the widetrack myself purely due to the nicer dash, the dccd that will come in handy when on track days, and the fact if i hadn't it would just bug me afterwards

Budget £9,000 - £10,000 ish
Miles under 40K

However more bothered about condition than age. Will I be bothered if I get a non dccd car - are they that much better (disregarding the dash) ?

i knew i would regret it afterwards if i hadn't, if your not looking to use the dccd or not bothered by the slightly different dash i would go for the 03-54 model, theres a price difference aswell so you could spend what you save on modifications, say an exhaust and remap

I decided to go for the widetrack after allot research and many say this is one of the best 2.0l straight out of the box and only made for one year or so, well impressed with it

for that budget you can get a hawk sti alothough i did pay £8800 for my 05 blob sti with 47k miles! i paid that much as it was a very very clean car compared to every other i look at was taty and wasn't going to live with it!

i find dccd great! as this is my 1st scooby alot of people say its feels differnt to a car without dccd, without the car felt more like it was on rails but imo i find it goes round corners like on rails so

I dont want a hawk, dont like them - thanks for advice though. Are you saying that a non dccd car feels better on the road?

Also in some ways i also like the cleaner back arches on the non dccd - but i am not sure if it would annoy me the fact that the car may not have dccd. Not sure.

i to find the hawk a tad ugly "/ hate to say it! i cant tell you 100% as i have only even driven mine hard on corners! i have driven a non dccd on test drive and coundnt tell the difference! the best thing you can do is go and look at both types in the flesh and drive them! i cant really explain it sorry

The actual changes Subaru made to the widetrack model were a lot more than just adding DCCD. Take a look at this article for the full list:

I'm not sure about that - I have a '05 DCCD STI and Subaru have confirmed to me that it was not sold with PPP.

It is interesting you say that, however, and I have just posted a thread about my car and it feeling pretty nippy for "only" 265bhp.

There are a lot of models pre-wide track that have DCCD.

JDM Spec C. plus Ltd Ed models.
JDM Sti GL Spec.

UK Spec WR1 iirc.

There maybe more.

Take a look under the car see if you have a cat infront of your middle box if it hasn't chances are it could be ppp unless previous owner fitted an after market exhaust system and changed it at same time

To clarify you mean it shouldn't have the cat in to which components 6 and 8 connect (in the handy diagram below)?

Yeah so as that diagram shows, there Is no cat, you should have on your car an exact looking system, so cat from the turbo, then the de cat pipe label 2 left hand line down, middle sinencer and a prodrive stamped backbox
