Anyone got a Geodesy GPS speed camera detector?

It works!!
It gives plenty of warning that you are approaching something and is spot on, location wise.
Does occasionally loose the GPS signal but notifies you of the fact. I've been thinking of getting an aerial to mount on the rear windscreen to improve GPS coverage.
It will work from within the (otherwise useless) centre dash bin, though that does reduce its GPS signal a bit.
Overall, a great bit of kit. Will be even better when the satnav addon is released....

A few questions someone asked me a while back
> 1. How good is it i.e what does it detect?
It detects all fixed camera's GATSO, SPECS(the ones that time you in between
points), forward facing GATSO's etc etc. It does'nt detect laser,VASCAR or
unmarked cars.
It does exactly what it says. The location of all 4000 camera sites in the
UK are stored inside the unit and using GPS it compares your location to
that of the camera sites, as you get closer to one a series of LED's light
up telling you how close you are. As you get within range of the camera an
increasing volume alarm sounds.
In practice it works VERY well. However GPS does'nt do altitude very well so
if you go over a speed camera(E.G it's on the road beneath you and your on
the road on top) you will get an alert. Also the GPS system works on a
circular radius so that if there is a camera in say a 0.5 mile radius it
will light up. However there are 10 LED's that light up red as you get
closer to a camera so you soon know if you are approaching one, or it's on a
side road as the lights will go on in sequence.
At first morpheous were fairly poor at removing camera's from the database
when they had gone(temp road works one's for example) but in recent months
they have got a lot better.
The database is updated about once a week(or less depdending on how many
camera's go up) and you simply put the unit in it's cradle and it does the
update all by itsself.
If you own a subaru then it fits perfectly in the centre bin on the dash and
is VERY discrete.

...if so, are they any good?
I have been thinking about getting one for a while and after a few near misses have decided to take the plunge - but thought I would check on here first.
Also does anyone know anything about a new product called trafcam that runs on a similar principle to Geodesy.
Cheers

They work well for fixed Gatsos, but are useless for mobile speed traps & lasers. If you just want to avoid fixed cameras, it works pretty well but you need to keep it up to date with regular downloads of new camera sites, and hope you don't get caught before the new site is registered. It will also warn you about cameras that are not operational (the majority these days). The GPS link sometimes gets lost and can take several minutes to re-acquire in some cases. I've found it 100% reliable at spotting sites when the GPS link is on.

There's a review of the Geodesy unit in this months Evo magazine. They rated it very highly. Apparantly the database is now updated three times a week and you get £50 if you report a camera that is not on their database.
I been seriously thinking about one of these myself. Apparantly it is not affected by the new anti-radar legislation because it does not actively detect cameras, rather it just reports their position via GPS.

Chris,
You might want to check the 'very open' wording of the proposed legislation. Anything that alerts the driver to a speed measuring device will/could be outlawed. Im sure StuartH can shed more light on it, but I believe the only get out is that Plod need to catch you using the device.

The wording also means it doesn't stand a chance. According to the current draft, if your mate sends you an SMS message, warning of a location then your phone becomes an illegal detection device!!
Of course, until the test case a couple of years back, radar detectors were deemed illegal to use. How many prosecutions were there?!!

Surely as speed cameras are placed because the sites are accident black spots (that is why they're there isn't it ;-) ?) all that's being done by purchasing a system is making yourself aware of areas of danger.
Or have I missed the point ;-))))
