Default Heel toe shift technique used on public roads

Was just wondering if people used this technique on public roads when down shifting I have just learnt this on track and was wondering if it would actually save my transmission much using it on public roads does anyone else use it ??

Default Heel/toe

I do it all the time m8 in my nissan navara pickup (daily driver) just for practice!! Plus it gets you in the habit of doing it in the scooby!!! In my mind it just keeps everything smooth and settled between downchanges!

You just keep the accelerator pedal p0lanted to the floor when you change up a gear. ECU cuts the revs during the shift. Allows for very quick gear changes and keeps you in the boost zone. It's a great feature imo.

That's OK if the blip happens after the clutch disengages. On mine the blip happens whilst the clutch is still biting and so sometimes (the blip doesn't happen every time and is not consistent) I get a surge forward when braking which is very disconcerting and I'm hoping that one day it will not be the final straw which pushes me into something.

Frustrating thing is that I only had it loaded on the basis that my throttle was so sensitive that controlling it on downshifts, whilst heeling and toeing, was very tricky. During the same session I had the throttle desensitised and so now I don't need it.

Yes all the time, that and left foot braking, perfect entry, apexing every corner.

Is there any other way to drive.

As bannysti wrote, practice makes perfect, iv'e been doing it for over 25yrs, but i'm into bikes as well, so it's second nature when coming down from 14k rpm.

Who mapped your car gdavey?
I am looking to have mine remapped with Racerom and was thinking of having the auto blip on downshift enabled but I was also concerned whether the blip will always happen at the right time.

Besides it is not a real rev-matching feature so I guess learning how to do it manually would be better (note to myself)?

Could your mapper not fine tune it or is there always a chance of it not working as expected due to the way it is designed?

Mine works fine. You say the blip doesn't work all the time? You need to be braking for it to work and it works from the shift not the clutch. I think you also have to be over 2500rpm and change gear quite quickly as its on a timer as is the flatfoot shift. Like anything it takes a bit of practice.

OK, I'll bear that info in mind when it catches me out again - I did ask for some instructions as it wasn't consistent.

If it works on the shift how is it mine blips when the clutch is on its way down but still engaged as that would be before I started shifting. What part of the shift activates the blip?

My guess (based on what chopperman says) is there is a sensor that the ECU uses to know when the car is in gear, so as soon as

a. the car is out of gear AND
b. you are braking

the auto blip activates.

That's what i think although its not like you push the clutch in then change gear. You tend to push the clutch and shift at the same time but i'm pretty sure it works off the shift and not the clutch. I will take notes later when i go out.

Most of the time. When i don't, i'll at the very least, rev match with each downshift.

I do it every day in my Clio but can't do it so well in the Impreza because it revs far too quickly and I don't drive it enough to learn the timing lol.
