What a result today! I recently bought a my95 wrx ra the engine was stripped down ready for rebuild when i bought it due to a spun bearing! id finnally got the bottom end rebuilt and ready, so thought id start building up the heads only to find that i was 5 under bucket shims short! I contacted subaru to get a price on the 5 small shims expecting them to be relatively cheap. How wrong could i be! The shims came in at £59.04 each + vat so £360 for the 5 all in and would be three weeks coming from japan!

A friend of mine mentioned that he had used a company before for cosworth solid lifters and shims and got me the number 01480 406886

Anyway after a good chat with the bloke he said he could machine the shims i needed no problem and would be with me within 2 or 3 days priced at £3.25 each posted happy days!! Only a saving of £344.75 lol...

Is it worth asking if they can machine other bits?

 

I am happy as larry . Definately worth an ask on other machining jobs! the bloke on the phone couldnt do enough to help and seemed very knowledgeable.. Ill keep you posted on the quality when they arrive. I just thought they deserve a big from me and if any other members can benefit there were all on a winner!

Ive nearly saved enough off them parts alone for my esl daughterboard now, just got to persude the mrs lol...

 

the small shims that go under the buckets are £7 from the dealer. they've quoted you the later type solid lifter, commonly found in newages

 

my heads are solid lifters mate i gave them chassis no. etc. 2 dealers :mangoletsi subaru and chandlers of grantham both gave me the same price and both said they needed to order from japan and 2 - 3 weeks!

 

Result, bookmarked for the future .
