Car that has been vinyl wrapped?

I'm thinking of having my car vinyl wrapped as the paint is not in brilliant condition but I'm worried about it affecting resale value or putting off potential buyers.

There is nothing wrong with the car, no accident damage etc but I think people will wonder whats been hidden as there are so many people ready to rip you off without a second thought

Yes.... People say a wrap can be to hide damage but any imperfections show through. the part being wrapped has to have no imperfections or they show up big time...

I think my questions would be....

Who's wrapped it?
Any sort or warranty with the wrap?
Roughly how much is it to re wrap each panel?

Apart from that it wouldn't put me off.

I'm thinking of having my car wrapped in satin or matte black with a few carbon details but don't really want to limit potential buyers should I need to sell

Why not just have the car painted if your only wrapping to hide poor body work. The difference in price is minimal and that way you won't put off any future punters. I'd rather see a shiny clean painted car over a wrapped one.

Because painting is more than twice the price I've been quoted for a wrap

Why dont you take a load of pics of the car before the wrap and then you can show a potential buyer whats underneath????

I once saw a audi q7 with a wrap. When I got closer it had a tear above the wheelarch the size of a tennis ball show the paint underneath. It looked so bad it put me off ever wanting a wrapped car.

Can tears like that be repaired? A painted car with damage like that can just be painted and blended in after which it is very difficult to see the repair.

A decent wrap will cost £1200-2k for a proper job with a ten yr guarantee
A sh it wrap £5-800

I know plenty of painters who will paint cars for £750-900

Oh and every wrap I've seen up close look sh ite , always defects when up close

Exactly....

If you've been quoted a wrap for half of what it costs to paint then I can Gaurentee it'll be sh1te and a complete waste of money.

Save up a bit more and have the car painted, will look better and make the car more desirable.

I'd say a 'proper' paint job would be £2k at least depending on who you use, I've only ever had Neil(EMB) do mine but he's no longer in the game.

£1500 and you'll get a decent paint job.

Bloody hell for £1500 i'd want a BJ as well as a PJ, i know a couple of decent painters that will paint a car for under £1k as long as it's not a minger, if you just need a bit of a tidy up for scratches, chips and the odd trolly ding.

I'd have a bit more of a hunt round some of the local small trading estates in my area if i were you, plenty of decent painters out there if you look hard, just make sure you see his work and have a good chat about exactly what your getting, and if you do things like take the bumpers off and lights out that can knock £100 off the price.

Just wondering how you can get a good paint job cheap but not a good wrap cheap? Surely there are skilled people out there who will do a good job for either at a reasonable price.

Depends what you think is good. There's good and there is acceptable. A good job is gonna cost you circa £1500 in my opinion.
Don't get me wrong, you'll get a car painted for a grand at many places and it would look ok, and if happy with an ok paint job then fair enough.
Same applies to vinyl wrapping.

Have you considered plastiDipping your car?
It sprays on like paint, but once dry, you can peel it off like vinyl. Pretty cool stuff.

My friend showed me these vids on youtube and I reckon the end results look amazing!

He's bought a few cans and we're gonna have a bit of fun with them on his wheels and maybe his bonnet or roof.
