Question Iphone 4 bracket/holder - In car

Hello all,

In desperation i'm calling out again for help.

What i'm after is a holder for my iphone to fit in my classic.

* What i don't want is a suction cup or vent pincher.

I'm after something i can actually screw into the dash and fix so it's solid and secure as oppose to something that's going to fly off and hit you in the head and then get stuck underneath the brake after you go round that empty round about sideways.

I'd love a brodit active holder but £50 is just out of the question when holders start at £1.99 on the bay.

Thanks in advance.

I've used Brodit for years, the best around. You really do get what you pay for, holders start at £1.99 for a reason, they are worth £1.99, if that.

Well, i took Lenny's advice and went for the Brodit.

I searched and searched and the bracket plus the holder plus P&P kept coming in at just over £50.

I finally found it on deals on amazon and paid just over £30 for both delivered.

My opinion, well............. I really don't think its the best of fits. You'll see in the pics there is a 12mm gap between the console and the bracket. I'm yet to have a "Sporty" drive in it but hopefully it'll stay in place, the phone and the bracket that is.

However, it is far, far better than the stick on cups or vent holders.

Mmmm... I fitted mine in my new Blobeye last week, fitted perfectly, although I had to do a bit more wiggling than any other car. Mine is fitted on the air vent and is rock solid. Let me go and get pics. It could do with a wiggle to make sure it's seated properly.

I have that cradle in my Beemer although I de-flocked it and took off brodit badges...

Ive got a rubber suction mount for my iPhone.
It was compatible with my old 3GS & now my 4S & has never fell off my windscreen!

Easily removed as well, so it does't attract the thieving scum!!

I always use DSL Developments for my Brodit, very helpful. Did you not fancy a powered cradle? It makes a huge difference, although I use Tom Tom on my iPhone so need it powered. Also needs to be higher....

It should be rock solid, I've probably had 7 or 8 Brodit holders in different cars over the years and never had one that wasn't rock solid. You may have to wiggle it about a bit and make sure that it is in the exact right position.

Forget suckers, they look naff...

£30 is a bargain, I ended up over a hundred for the powered and inductive aerial kit for mine. Saying that, I work from my car and need a good powered car kit and a solid holder.

I was going to go for the active one however i'm currently looking at the new double din "App" stereos that require a direct plug in so went for the passive.

I drove the car this morning at 0430 on the way to work. I am now a lot happier with it. My suspension is set very hard and it didn't move in the slightest

Thanks for your help Lenny!

As for the suction cups, there probably are some good ones out there but without the fluffy dice next to them they also look awful

I'm glad you're happy with it, as I mentioned I've never found anything as good as them. Did you not fancy your phone higher up?

I've got a Pioneer AVH-8400BT which supports App Radio, although I've not tried it yet. It needs a special cable and I'm not convinced how good it really will be. I'll probably order up the cable and give it a go though.

The main thing for me was power the iPhone and in a good position for TomTom on iPhone and hands free though the Pioneer.

No one was selling the top mount for the classic. Plus I didn't want to see a cable going up the dash to plug into the phone.

I've just fitted a hard wire charging cable and it was easy to hide .

I'm going for the new pioneer app radio which doesn't have a cd player so the connection is essential.

Thanks again
