this question may have been asked before but here goes how come a std wr1 can hit 100 in 10.6 secs, and it takes a 2.5sti uk ppp 12.2 secs, that is a big difference for 2 cars with virtually same bhp.
I know that in 2004 Prodrive used to claim a time of 10.6 secs for 0-100 but there is no way that a 1470 Kg 4WD car with just 218 bhp per ton will do it in much under 12.8 seconds. That's the reality.
correct me if am wrong but the figure ive seen says 0-100 10.67secs and 4.25 secs 0-60
I think the slightly quicker 0-60 time is due to gear ratios. The 6 speed box will not quite do 60 mph in second gear where as i believe the older 5 speed box will. I think 0-100 in 10.67 is a tad ambitious.
It was doing by that chap at Pro-Drive via a 6k rpm launch from what I remember. 4.3secs 0-62 i think it was. In reality you wont be launching it everywhere so a sub 5 secs 0-62 will be very difficult on the road.
it wasnt as quick as the p1 in any situation, but it was less battering over the bumps, the brakes were better but wear out fast and service intervals were 5000 miles
Whats a normal STI rev to?
Think my std wr1 went to 7300rpm - maybe extra rpm helped.
Still yet to see a wr1 do book figures on a drag race like TOTB
I had a play with a WR1 in my Rb320. I was carrying more weight (passenger). first, second third we were pretty level although once i was in third i was edging in front. Once i hit forth i was gaining distance on him. Both cars were similar bhp and close to standard. Rb320 standard was listed at 12.2 0-100 and there was no way the WR1 was quicker. I put it down to my 2.5 have more torque and the closer ratio gear box in the mid range.
i did 100,000 miles in 3 ..5 speeders without any gearbox issues...most prob down to too many miss timed on boost gearchanges...weve all done it...havnt we??? :@(

The P1 I have been in felt a lot lighter than the wr1 but power wise didnt feel that much slower than a WR1. 22b has to be the daddy really

Yer I drive an RB320 quite a lot as the father in law has one - definitely a lot torquier than my WR1 when it used to be standard. On a track or on the road in reality there isnt much in it. I could creep away from him in some scenarios and vice versa.
when the wr1 first appeared people bought it purely for the performance stats, in my opinion, and when a company like prodrive says the wr1 is the fastest impreza ever most people are gonna believe em. if ye not into modifying and your new to imprezas your gonna buy one, because of the figures they quoted.
In 1980, the top racing mag of the time tested the then new Escort XR3 0-60 at 8.6 secs. Nobody else could get within a second of that time but the car sold like hot cakes on the strength of that one road test.
