Question

Dear All

My IMP has now done 5600 miles and still feels very tight, certainly doesn't feel as good as the demo cars I originally drove.

The question is how hard does the car need to be driven to loosen it up? Lots of hard acceleration, or holding it at high revs/boost?

I'm probably quite gentle with it.

BTW aren't the brakes poor considering the cars performance - must change them first.

Grateful for any help.....
Jason

Cool

I have 2800 on mine and still feels tight, though I remember my Sport feeling tight up to about 5k/6k, BUT it just got better and better unlike a lo of cars that reach their peak and then tail off (some very quickly and badly). I suspect thatthe turbo is the same.

I try to keep mine moving thru the revs and generally avoid sitting on Mways at 70moh for hours on end - I figure better to kepp everything working all of the time

At 5k you should be doing a "Bob" on it by now.

The brakes aren't too bad are they? Unless you track day it?

I compared the brakes with my Clare's Clio 16v which seem much sharper. No track days no fading they just feel wooley.

When I took the 16v out for a drive I thought it was broken (felt very sluggish) but it was just the impreza effect!

Breaks are an interesting subject. They are generally fine on my MY00 but sometimes feel like they lack bite until given a severe prod. I think its about time I did some 'bedding in' - blast and break therapy as its called.

I ran my RB in very carefully for the first 1000 miles, varying the revs upto 4000, not making it labour in any gear, and not using constant revs for miles. I was also careful to bed the brakes in gently, and go easy on the clutch.

After the first service I took it up gradually over the next 1000 miles. After that I drove it hard when ever I felt the need.........

Result is that after 7500 service it freed up beautifully and now goes like stink (standard car) mashes your face in the dashboard when breaking hard, and shows no sign of clutch judder.
