2005 Sti with PPP or 2005 with mods
I know fuel shouldn't be an issue but i have to ask..
Would a 2005 Sti with PPP (say 305BHP) have better fueling then a 2005 Sti with mods that take it to or around 305?
Just wondering what route to go down when I go shopping

if it helps i have the car your talking about, i have the ppp fitted but now its been remapped and i have a miltek exhaust the ppp is not really there anymore.
although the ppp has and uprated fuel pump to but thats not an expensive item.
it not really worth getting if your modding the car.
but i do like the 18 inch pf7 prodrive wheels as they look much better than the standard 17's, these were an option but not part of ppp.

Get a PPP'd car - will not be that much more than a standard car I'd say.
You will then have a hi-flow down pipe and stainless system that sounds nice.
Then get it remapped.
This will provide approx 330-340 bhp and similar torque, will be much nicer to drive and full boost(1.4bar) from about 2700K until 7K.

firstly the prodrive exhaust isnt stainless and whats the point of mapping over the ppp map? you may as well not bother with the ppp as a remap on a standard sti will produce the same bhp.

And in reality a PPP car demands a bit more money over a non PPP car, use this few quid saved by buying a standard car and spend it on it.
You'll end up with a far better driver.

IMO the PPP is ****e and for what it cost to fit is beyond a joke. With not alot of money you can transform a standard STI into the car a PPP should of been.
And in reality a PPP car demands a bit more money over a non PPP car, use this few quid saved by buying a standard car and spend it on it.
You'll end up with a far better driver.

So as usual everyone jumps on and slates ppp.
Yes if you purchased it from the dealer it was expensive for what it is, but it was classed as a dealer upgrade and came in under warranty.
As a generic map i think it probably worked better on some cars than others, and was a safe map for all cars, which is worth around the 4k on account of that being the cost to rebuild if if goes pop, let alone the extra insurance cost of mods as many insurance companies don't like modded cars.
I have had all three so to speak, standard 04 blob which was then remapped by one of the best in the business, and the difference was night and day, but it started knocking after around 35000 miles, what was the cause, who knows? you can make your own minds up about that.
I now have a 54 blob with PPP and the mid range shove is as good as the specialist remap, which is where it spends most of it's time when pushing on along country roads, that car has 93000 and still going strong.
remap £600
Exhaust £400
Filter £68
Fuel pump £160
And there was no silicone tmic pipe, this was back in 04 and i never declared it as i did not know you had to, and as said it went pop at a cost of around £4k to the guy that bought it off me.
I went for a descrete sounding and standard looking exhaust, and i still prefer the sound of the prodrive item.
Now think what you will about prodrive, but there is no getting away from the fact that they know more about these cars than any specialist mapper and have resources beyond the dreams of any of the subaru tuners out there and even more so back in the day.
Make what you will of my experience i'm only one person with 2 cars so hardly a fair representation of the whole market, but i have had two cars remapped by so called specialists and both went pop, one of them twice, and all mapped by well respected mappers, and i dare not add the total cost, but lets just say i could have that nice 3.2 air cooled porker i have always dreamed of sat in the garage, going up in value as opposed to a 54 wrx ppp wagon going down in value on a daily basis.

My point is a PPP'd car will not be much more than a non PPP car.
So buy it, and remap it for approx £500 quid
Non PPP'd car, exhaust, fuel pump, labour - what that, another £800?

but i do agree on the ppp being a safer map for the car,as its generic and doesnt push the engine to its limits.
i guess you'll never know what caused the engines to fail, but i would think there is less stress on engine components on a ppp car.
the prodrive exhaust i had was mild steel
