Default £1400 FOR REAR WINDSREEN

Hi

I had the rear windscreen replaced yesterday after it broke mid week, the AA fitter said that the screen alone was £1400 plus labour to fit, thank god for full comp ins !!!

But how on earth can one piece of glass cost that type of money !!??? I know it has the car aerial in the window but thats just crazy money !

Demand? Not that much call for them?

Plus the Japs, and epecially Subaru, have ALWAYS taken us for as much moolah as they could.

Im so glad my ins covered it !!!!

If it hadn't of been covered I would of had to buy a boot with the glass in or searched high and low for a rear glass, but £1400 thats just a rip off !!!!

Maybe so but I did contact a few companies to check prices before I spoke to my ins incase it wasnt covered and they were all quoting approx £900 without the aerial in the window so I bet its not far off. But all fixed now.

Happy Dayz

I phoned the main dealer back in 2008 they quoted me £600, that was for a classic saloon.

last year i got a new screen for my girlfriends saxo, the big companies were all quoting £400+ if its through insurance or about £200 if its not. i ended up getting one for about £120 fitted from a local company. people like autoglass, rac etc. milking the system are just another reason why insurance is so extortionate.

I gave my classic saloon one away after getting no buyers.
I'd changed to a JDM one to get the hole for the rear wash-wipe.

600 is damn cheap, also can depend on what it is.

i got told Classic has 3 version, green tint, brown tint and then a another (which i cant remember what it is), imports have the coloured ones and are £1200 each

Also technicly if you dont have the right one its classed as a mod and needs to be declared.

The £600 was just to supply the glass, he then said I would also need all the trim and clips for the rear window.

I phoned northern glass, I think that was their name ? Anyway the guy said if you are fully comp it will only cost 18 or 20 quid can't remember how much exactly but it was next to nothin, he came out on a Sunday, fitted and that was that sorted. He did say the glass he fitted had a slight blue tint, it just looked plain to me.

they are quoting the full retail price to you.
Nobody (especially the insurance company ) pay the full retail price.
