The shell near mine in Bham had nothing left at all, so most people I know started using the Tesco Momentum and I haven't heard no complaints yet, So I take that Momentum stuff is as good as V-power.

Your all lucky as i drove to 4 shell stations in Southwest london for vpower without a drop then visited 2 tesco stops & in the end settled for their supreme fuel (says 97) so ended up mixing with nf.

To be honest I've never noticed any difference between the Vpower and Tesco 99. Surely they must be so close to being the same.

Anyone actually done a back to back test? Or a way of finding exactly telling what difference there is,

Thank to our glorious government () I've been nowhere, done nowt, spent nowt.
That's the way to get the country back on it's feet.
Now, how do I get the 35 miles to work tomorrow morning????

Shell is the better fuel.... Tesco's buy from who ever sells them the cheapest fuel and then add additives to bring it upto 99

Had my car mapped for both at one point and V power seems to give more power based on my seat of the pants meter. Can't compare rolling road figures as different rollers and new clutch in between. But really I would only insist on v power for a track day, otherwise Tesco 99 is cheaper, seems smoother, lasts longer and get clubcard points!!

managed to get some generic 97 earlier.
It's gone up 2p/litre since last week. Now £1.52.
Must be due to the shortage, or glut, or famine in east africa, or price of mexican jumping beans or some such other ar$e of an excuse.

Thieving fckkers.

Where was that? A hillbilly independent out in the sticks?

Sainsbury's super unleaded, 97 Ron, was £1.43 the other day.

Nope, TOTAL in the town centre, was Shell until 4 months ago.
Only other choice is Esso 97 locally.
They are both owned by the same people (the co-op!), so have the town stitched up.

As my 500+ car threw up the cel light on my Syvecs with it what it has never done with shell.... Depends on more than just one car that might have been mapped more safe than others

Still no v power round here fed up phoning Shell(have 5 station, in easy reach) gone with momentum now, they never ran out !!

Has anyone spoken to Duncan about risks of being mapped for v power and then changing to momentum ?

Most mappers will suggest V-Power but will say that momentum 'should' be fine.
Just because one member has used it for 4 years without issue does not sway me enough to ever put it in my car. Maybe on a bog standard car it's fine, infact I'm sure it is but on a modified car I'd always recommend shell

For starters it average Ron number is lower than V-Power which alone puts me off. Yes it's a tiny difference but why accept a lesser fuel when around the corner you can buy a superior one. Money you say,,,, if your worrying about an extra couple of pence per liter then maybe you shouldn't of bought an Impreza as no matter what fuel you use they are sh1te on it.
The issues tesco had a couple of years ago is also another put off. Yes at 'that' time is was only the regular unleaded that suffered issues but even so, you never hear of shell suffering with sh1te fuel.

I would also like to know why their fuel lasts longer. Nearly every post I've seen regarding momentum states that they can get many more miles per tank, why is this ? (genuine question)

In summary I would say on a standard Impreza or even very slightly modified car then yep, fill your boots with tesco fuel. But, on more modified cars then shell should be your first choice.

I think you`ll find it`s not down to money at all, it`s availability, plain and simple. People who use their cars as daily drivers were p1ssed about by the w@nkers at Shell and left with no fuel so it makes no difference if there`s a Shell garage round the corner if they have no `superior` fuel...is it?

Yep, fair comment. If there is no shell V-Power and you need to use your car then obviously the next best thing is Tesco's fuel. But I certainly wouldn't be driving my car hard while using the stuff and at the first chance I'd be filling up with V-Power.
The reason so many shell garages ran out was because their V-Power tanks are much smaller than their regular fuels and the pathetic rush for fuel we witnessed last week drained their stocks. Our local shell had V-Power available the entire time while their diesel ran short thougj. It wasn't just shell garages that ran short either, nearly all the stations in my town were out of certain fuels.

My move to momentum is not out of choice but availability ! 12 day since the v power ran out round here

Will go running back to shell or get a map tweak if the v power drought round here lasts much longer

dont be silly

tesco - esso
sainsbury - bp
morrison- no idea
some compare vpower tesco99 and bp http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/t...s_Update.shtml
bp = tesco 99
next vpower
tesco wins by price

article conclusion
In simple terms, Shell V Power is near identical to the Optimax product that it replaced, in power and ‘feel’ terms it continued to out perform all 95 octane fuels and we’d still recommend owners of all performance cars use the highest quality fuel they can find. However the performance offered by the fuel was sometimes inconsistent.
The Tesco 99 fuel again outperformed V Power in all the tests but the differences between the two fuels were marginal and we doubt most people would tell the difference in their cars on a day to day basis. However the Tesco fuel was the most consistent.
The BP 102 fuel showed the best gains in terms of ‘feel’ and performed better on the dyno and on initial fill up, when the fuel was fresh the power gains were noticeable even above the Tesco 99 fuel. However the gains seemed to dramatically diminish over time or with increases in engine bay temperature a feature which we are continuing to test
