Mine's ECU with ESL???
Was taking my WRX apart a few days ago as I'm stripping it for breaking and thought I'd get the ECU out while I was at it. Now I knew there was some nice bits on there when I bought it but wasn't expecting this:
As you can see there's a couple of wires coming from the bottom so took the cover off for a closer look...
... and found an ESL board The wires go to switch, I'm assuming it's to switch between the Mine's and ESL maps.
Nice surprise as I had been saving to get ESL fitted at some point before reluctantly deciding to break the car, had no idea it was on there

Careful, that's an early non-mappable ESL board, not one of the later mappable ones. Should fetch a few quid extra over and above a stock ECU but it can't be remapped.

Breaking the car so it'll be going
thought they were all mappable otherwise what's the point of them? says ESL 2005 if that helps

It's the same as many other chips provided by UK and Japanese tuners, e.g. this recent discussion.
The map is a generic map - a bit like a PPP on steroids - with increased boost, fuelling and ignition to suit, plus things like speed limiter removed for Japanese cars. But the map is fixed with the option to convert it back to stock.
But it isn't remappable, unfortunately.

I get what you're saying, just don't get why anyone would fit something like that to a Mine's ECU as it already has increased boost and ignition timings etc and the speed limiter removed.
Seems a bit pointless and a waste of money really if it can't be mapped lol.
