Default rpm @70mph ?

Hey all,

My Type-r sits at nearly 3,500rpm @ 70mph in 5th...

This sound right?! Or might I have a different box?

Seems high to me, and is dangerous for my pocket on the motorway as it is right at my fave point in the revs!

I think its a v5, on a 'T' 99, plate

Only just got it, had all facelift front end etc but smoked lights when I got it. Got crystals on now, 3d grill and p1 bumper going on tomorrow night how I have had it pictured for long enough!

Many people complain about the type R gearing on the motorway but it's a compromise worth taking in my opinion and I'm most envious that I can no longer run that box I think at 70 I'm doing about 3k but that's on a 6 speed.

Type R has one of the shortest ratio standard boxes so unfortunately is doesnt make motorway driving much fun. Some people have modded the gearbox to use a UK TY754 5th gear to get over this problem but its a lot of work.

IIRC, you have 4.444 diff ratio which is why you're screaming in 5th.

Mine is about 3.5(ish)k at 70 too, when doing 80 its at or just under 4k.

Its not an R/RA but a 96 WRX import.

Mine? Its only a WRX not Sti/R/RA etc. Been told its a quick one lol. The boost comes on quite late in mine too though, at 80/4k it sits on 0 or slightly below according to the boost gauge.

Got confused I guess craigo, nice motor, was thinking about one but couldnt justify in my own mind the difference in price. Most likely because its my first sub..P1 when I grow up!

Its a Type-R STI if you are asking me?

Yes I went from a version 2 sti box to a 6 speed due to power but I wanted a 5 speed type R DCCD box. I'd honestly consider going back to a 5 if I could because with that power on a 5 speed it'd be amazing fun

By the looks of things the classics are geared closer... to be fair, I would love to sit at 2500rpm at 70mph but if needs be, I will motorway travel at 60mph.... finally give people a chance to look at me

Every downfall of an impreza is always over ruled by a simple sound.. bob bob bob bob bob !!
