New MOT 2012 Rules - Decat's?
Just had my 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX MOT'ed which it passed. However, I was told by the guy at Bell and Colvill (Subaru main dealer) that as I have a de-cat on the car, next year it would fail as the new rules state that it must have the Cat put back on for the MOT if one was fitted to the car as standard. This did not bother me as I would put the Cat back on which he said they do for most of the Lotus Elises they service.
I was then thinking, what if you have the Prodrive Performance Pack fitted to your car which I believe is an approved Subaru product, either from new or at a later date which I believe comes with a de-cat. Do you then have to buy a Cat seperatly to just pass the MOT?

My ECU light comes on which I have been told is something to do with one of the sensors kicking off as the cat is removed. I just reset it with a reader from time to time. Thanks for the info regarding the PPP. So if you have that kit fitted, you should be ok for MOT's thankfully. Just something I was thinking of as an option rather than having to buy a seperate cat and getting fitted and removed each time for the MOT.

I have the prodrive pack on my 05 STi.
Its just a cat back system and a sports cat (the 3rd cat).
It still passes emissions fine.
To be honest i think you can get away with removing 2 of te 3 cats before the EML comes on.

So if it is the 3rd cat thats been removed then getting the Prodrive pack will hopefully cure my problem. I guess I need to speak to Subaru and find out what cat has been removed.

On my hawk sti the prodrive exhaust had 1 cat on the down pipe. Im dont think its a 100 cell sports cat though. Stamped on the cat is a C7. Is this 700 cell?
I didnt know this!
i was under the impression the prodrive exhaust was just a cat back, with a sports cat replacing the 3rd cat.
So where is my cat? on the up-pipe before the turbo?
Think i need to get under the car and see whats what.
My understanding is that a PPP removes the second cat, car will still meet the MOT emissions test and wont put on the MIL because only the first cat is diagnosed ( Lambda sensor each side of it ).

Honestly, they'd see an ECUtek remap as illegal. But they're so blinded by black and white, they will not allow any grey areas
On the other hand, as Barnshaw says, hoepw the hell are they gonna check? 'Some' MOT testers don't know their a$$ from their elbow, others who are clued up on it won't have time to be snooping around as the garage owner wants them in and out to keep the money flowing
