Default Thanks to Enginetuner

Big thanks to Alan and the guys (and girl) at Enginetuner today. Lost oil pressure in my GB270 on Wednesday evening - spoke to Alan Thursday afternoon and took it in first thing this morning for a manual oil pressure check - turned out to be oil pump faulty. Checked, diagnosed, new RCM oil pump and cambelt all done in a day and back this evening.

Always hate it when you speak to a garage with an immediate problem and get told they can squeeze you in week after next.

No messing today and all sorted from start (problem occured) to finish in a day and a half.

Oil pressure all sorted and back to best.

Hi Henry!
Good call on your part, noticing the issue, and having the good sense to enquire about it. Engine saved!
For those interested, the screws came loose on the back of the pump. Factory fresh engine, never been touched before. It causes a drop in oil pressure and a tendency to pulse around a half a bar variation. We figured before stripping it that a new RCM pump couldn't possibly hurt, and fitted that with the man's permission along with a two bird killing cam belt change.
Result.

Drop in pressure was easy to spot - oil pressure dropped from 5.5/6 bar at 2500 rpm when warm down to 3.5 bar at 2500rpm. Sits at a minimum of 5.8 bar at 2000rpm now even when very hot on drive back.

Only question is that when on the A38 at a higher rpm the oil pressure above 6 bar would hunt constantly back and forth by about half a bar - from about 6.25 bar to 6.75 bar at about a constant 3500 rpm. Could this be the relief valve contsantly opening/closing to reduce some pressure?

More advice I'm afraid but again thank you for the help.
