Default MPG on new shape STI

Hi guys

The time has come for me to get a new motor .
Myself and the other half have agreed to look at the new STI.
Can any owners give me an idea of real world MPG of this car?
It will be used as a daily commute and a spirited drive now and then.
Now I know its not going to be fantastic but after following Tom Ford on Top Gear magazine he reckons he's getting 24mpg.

Any replies are appreciated.

Thanks

Got 21mpg for first 10,000miles in my saloon only ever used v-power. Just done a 700mile trip to Cotswolds with the family and got 30.6mpg but the majority of that was 6th gear in intelligent mode. I can also do 60 miles trip to work and back in S# and just scrape 10mpg, country roads all the way, so all depends how you feel. But if you are worried about mpg then its the wrong car. You also need to factor in tyres, brakes, tax and insurance. They are set to run very rich at any sort of boost. On the plus side they traditionally have been very good on depreciation which is the biggest running cost of any car.

Thanks for the replies guys.
We have just gone from 2 cars to 1 in our house as I now commute to work on a moped!
The car we have let go was a 520bhp Evo so I am no stranger to bad mpg but the other half is driving a BMW diesel so does get good return for her hard earned.
So the plan is to buy a happy medium, hence the STI.

Now my next question, why is the for sale page lacking cars for sale?
I bought the Evo from an MLR member and there never seems to be a shortage of good cars to choose on that site.

P.S. I'm not a tyre kicker and looking for a STI about a year old with low mileage pref with Recaro's and BBS wheels.

Again any replies appreciated.

well my 330s.....
seems to do better in 'sport' mode than 'inteligent' mode on MPG..

recent trip from Nottm to Blackpool (299mile round trip) saw ....

steady motorway speed of 68-70mph

popped down to Rugby yesterday and back... kept just over 70mph... saw 26mpg

Town driving you see it lower.

But TBH... I can't say MPG is anyworse than the UK turbo I had ten year agao that ran only 240bhp.
The 330s.. runnng almost another 100bhp.. with the 2.5litre engine seems as good.

Go for it.. you don't buy a scoob for MPG..... not saying I'd want the petrol bill on one if using it everyday though.

have you seen this one for sale...?

Well as the OP is looking 2nd hand then not too bad but the New STi is £33k and they are already plenty of sub £25k examples with very low mileage and less than a yr old. Some even closer to £20k esp the saloons as there seems to be a lot more of them for sale. Id try and plump for a 2011 model as more aggressive front end and has the Spec C suspension and many have the 320R power upgrade.

From what I've been told, the Spec C suspension is too firm

Really?

Thinking about it, I suppose the ride on my 05STI wasn't really any different to the 02STI

I reset the MPG computer on my 330 hatch when buying exactly 9 months ago and haven't touched the gadget since. I've covered a touch over 4k miles and the reading is 28.5 which includes equal amounts of motorway and in town low gear driving in 'I' and 'S#' modes (never used 'S' mode, is there any point ?). The reading hasn't changed for the past 1k miles no matter how the car is driven.

I'm the opposite - I never use 'I' mode, car is left in 'S' mode and switched to 'S#' when warm.

Could be the reason why your average read out is 24 mpg and mine is 28.5, although I must admit that the drive in 'I' mode does sometimes feel as if the handbrake is still on, especially in the higher gears. I'll give 'S' mode a try instead of 'I' and see if the mpg is affected.

Does the STI give you a 'real time' mpg?

It can tell you the mpg for the past mile of driving.

Latest model can be set to change constantly but this is very irritating!

I wouldn't mind that function on my 08.

Is it simply a different 'clock' or is there more to it than that?

And how do you change to that mode on the 11 car, i.e. via the buttons on the 'clock' or is it BIU programming?

PM me if you prefer, don't want to thread jack.

Cheers, Neil

You press the trip button from memory and instead of giving an 'average' reading next to the clock it constantly fluctuates to the exact output, can't really see the point to be honest. When I collected the car it was set to this and it drove me mad until I finally found how to switch it to the average mpg

Had my 330s for about a year after going from 2 cars to 1. Wife uses the car as a daily commute towards London, so fair amount of stop start in the morning and free flowing dual carriageway in the evenings as well as varied amounts during the day. I get to drive the car Friday eve for the weekend and usually the mpg is about 23.7 on S when I get in. When I drive over the weeked this normally goes up to mid 24's and I only drive in S# (unless going for a spirited drive!!).

We regularly do trips to Scotland from Essex to see the inlaws around 420 miles and average 28-30 depending on who is driving!

Good luck finding what you want, be prepared to pay a premium for a car eith the BBS wheels, they were/are an expensive upgrade and not may cars have them.

Ive noticed this too which almost led me to buying an EVO due to the lack of cars on here, however I think you will find an increasing amount of folk on here breaking their cars due to demand of parts over complete cars. If you search back through the Subaru Cars for Sale thread there are still some lovely motors for sale, but very few under 4 or 5 years old. Good luck with your search, If I was you I would be trying a dealer at this time of year putting the dealer under pressure to sell at the right price (climate and time of year) Rob
