now with all these shells available,,,, be honest who is tempted to reshell there motor into a type R
my car is practically in peices right now,,,,,,,,,, soo tempted to do this but im trying to get a bigger place with a garage( which ill need to store the shell lol)
its such a shame to break these cars up BUT,,,, for a grand you can convert your tired car into a 3 door
as harsh as it sounds hope its like this in around 6 months time as i think i might just have to do that

Must admit I've been tempted to put all my goodies into a type R. Saw a nice one finish on £3800 the other day, easy to see why so many are getting broken up.
im more than tempted if im honest, im trying to work out what garage to use and ill be doing it as for what im going to do to the car its practically gonna be stripped and rebuilt so thos would be no more trouble tbh

I personally dont see the big deal on the two door shell. I prefer the better handling of a newage car to an older one. You have to remeber most type r shells are abouut 12 years old so you wouldnt want to pay much for an old car

Handling wise, yes a newage is probably better than a standard classic, but how many standard classics are there. I can assure you that your newage won't handle any better than my old crusty classic.

So why are so many keep being broke? surely because people think they are worth more money than they are??
As for your classic handling better than mine, dream on

Classic if set up correctly, will out perform a matching newage, in handling and performance.Originally Posted by stevebt

But I`d love a Type R, may work out cheaper than respraying mine tbh.

Had both, and classic wins hands down, and type r's are way better looking than any other subaru even a 22b as i don't like the arches on them.Originally Posted by stevebt

And to leave a well set up 400bhp type r with a lardy newage, well you already know what power and pounds are required.

They are being broke because unfortunately the market for these is terrible. Cars are just worth more in bits now, I could never sell mine as a whole. To see any realistic worth I would have to break it up. Originally Posted by stevebt

LOL.. I'm wide awake chap. It's not a dream it's reality. And no, my **** isn't bigger than yours.
the way i look at it is cossies went down stupid cheep as 2k back in 98 to 2000 and averaged 3k for a nice saph and 5k for a 3 door
NOW look at the price of rs500's, 3 doors ect even the price of RWD saphs, i paid 4500 for a 352bhp rwd cossie with quaife diff,,,, thats would fetch 7k min today if i still had it
as siad if i find a Type R that is very clean its a better investment for me to reshell AND it keeps another " dead" type R on the road too
im guessing the STI RA's are gonna be the rear rare ones soon though as they have alot of nice touches and values aint worth a ****

Some modified ones are, but most cars are ones that have had a minimal spend and people pressuming thier car is worth more, The type r shells are only selling for track cars? The type r only appeals to people who have owned an Impreza and wished they had bought a two door one, people who want an impreza don't care about them and just want the newest model.

i really don't like seeing so many good cars being broken up, see it on here a lot now
But at the same time i have cruised those threads looking for parts

harsh news is we need cars to be broken for our ones to live one but it is a shame to break up mint ones but they are now worth more in bits so breaking them is the next "business" for people to be doing
Scooby Regular
I would have loved to have found a type r shell and done what your planning but to find one at a good price was going to be even more expensive for my build anyway.

So I have a bit of a dilemma.
I've been looking at possibly selling my Type r to fund a new project.MY98 v4 virtually standard apart from Ohlins coilovers and 3"decat,good condition for year (a couple of car park dents, nothing major),89000km and still resricted to 112mph.
I would much rather sell as a whole as I don't really want to break what is essentially a good car but if the market is that bad then needs must.
What I'd like to know is :
a) How much could I realistically look at getting back if I was to choose either option?
b) A rough time scale of how long it would take to sell the parts if i broke it? (I appreciate this is a difficult one to answer)
many thanks
Mick
