Default Hi, new member needing advice if possible

Hi every1, hows it going

sorry if this gets asked lots of times

been looking at possibly getting an Impreza and going to look at an 06 hawkeye wrx sometime this coming week, its been re-mapped to approx 300bhp with an sti splitter, rear wrc spoiler and full de-cat system

have a few questions if any1 could give a rough answer, would be much appreciated

now im 27 with 9 yrs ncb, how much roughly do some of you pay all mods declared and who do you find the best company to insure these cars. currently got a leon cupra r via directline and im payin £650 a yr

other question is about the hawkeye part, what exactly does it consist of as ive search through google but cant seem to find an exact answer

thanks

Matt

find out who mapped it. If you want to make any further changes power wise at a later date you'll need to get the map tweeked by the original mapper which is a 3rd of the price of getting it mapped somewhere else.

yeah already got the details of the mapper on the pistonheads add

as for service history, 1st 2 were done by subaru dealers, then the rest at more local garage, which i would probs do aswell tbh as i reckon subaru would charge a bomb, then when a cambelt came around to be done i would get the parts and get my bro 2 do it as he is a mechanic

Hi Matt and welcome

I was in a similar position to you in when I bought my scooby in May. This one looks well nice mate. Really good looking car with some good mods. You won't regret buying it.

I bought mine as standard, its an 07 Hawkeye WRX now re -mapped to 282hp, new spoiler, wheels etc. Just needs a few more things doing to it, want to get it lowered next I think. But its worth all the money for the pleasure of owning such a fantastic car.

For mine insurance is about 900 a year with Admiral, went up 200 after mods. I'm a bit older at 33 but have same no claims etc.

Hello all I'm also new to the site. I bought my first wrx in june and just found this site. It seems to be a good source of info. Can anyone tell me if it makes a difference what mods are made in which order? thanks.

hi Stooby4, to answer your question, it depends whats on the car already.

If its standard then you need to start with the basics, walbro pump, panel filter, 3 port solenoid, de-cat exhaust system and remap.

If you do any of these mods without a remap you're likely to decrease performance and eventually cause damage. Impreza's arent a car that you can just bolt stuff on and go faster i'm afraid.

seems a fair price for that mileage but ditch the "look at me" rear lights and get something tinted or standard in there.

yeah im not keen on the lights either, ill see if he has the standard ones still if i do end up buying it

also ive been doing a bit of research and found a few possible issues with the 2.5l engine having head gasket issues

is this true or was it just certain yr models that had these issues?

Hamster thanks for the reply mate. The car as far as I can tell is standard apart from a dump valve and I think its an after market exhaust, it says ninja on the tailpipe which is pretty enormous. I have never heard of a ninja exhaust but its been a while since I was up to speed. does the remapping need to be done before anything else or after?

Just looked at your link Matt. Looks sweet. Thats a good price too. Cars seem to be a lot more expensive over here. I think a trip to the mainland is called for next time.

if you map it now you'll have to have the map tweeked everytime you add something.

Best thing is to decide what mods/power level you want, fit the appropriate parts required then get it mapped.

Just a word to the wise, some of the more knowledgeable people on here stop reading when they see text speak and won't reply.

I'm not being pedantic or telling you how to write your posts, but like i say there are plenty more on here that have much more info for you if you don't use text speak

Seriously?

Matt has written a load of posts in the thread with barely any shortcuts or text speak and a lot of people access forums on their phones so its natural to use text speak.

I find this quite saddening that someone wouldnt offer advice just because of the way someone posts. Its 2011 FFS, not 1981.

I wouldnt appologise Matt, its posts like that one that make people leave Scoobynet and join a local forum instead. Local forums tend to be less "judgmental" and theres less posts that go unanswered.

haha thanks, everybody has been more than helpful so far with anything i've asked, including yourself and its much appreciated

when buying a car like this, i feel its always important to get people's opinions who already drive these cars as its valuable information for someone like me who is not as clued up on cars, especially turbo'd cars like scooby's, evo's, skylines etc

what are ok levels for oil temp/pressure and water temp, just so i no when i look at these cars

thanks again
