Hi Everyone.

I posted this up in the members gallery and realised I had left my reg no on the pics so had to remove it. Thanks to the 2 guys for the warm welcome who read the post before I noticed my mistake.

I have been reading these forums for a couple of months now having just bought my first scoob. It is a 2006 wrx with ppp So I thought it was time to introduce myself. I am new to these forums and so appologies if I have posted in the wrong place. Anyway- my story is this.

I have traded in my xkr which was always my dream car from the moment the first xk8 was launched. I could never really afford one untill a couple of years ago when I bought a 2000 xkr. Here are a couple of pics.





When I first got it I loved the experiance of owning such a car. Sadly, not long after I got it one of the cylinder head gasket went. I also had a few other small problems with it. My main issue was the lack of garages that would work on it. So I decided to part with it. The big question was what will I replace it with? I have a couple of friends, one is probably known to some of you on here as "andythejock" (one of my best mates!) who have owned scoobs for while. They seem to be pretty reliable as far as i can see if treated well. Another issue I had is that I do a bit of skiing and have an old Landrover discovery for the winter which I was thinking of selling as well, although I have now decided to keep it. So I wanted a car for the winter as well and the scoob fits the bill. I have to say, I have become addicted to the feel of this car and every time I drive it it puts a big smile on my face. I think I may have been bitten by the subaru bug!!!! I don't have any plans to modify it at the moment, but who knows what may happen in the future.

Nice looking Jag, shame about the unreliablilty, you wont have half as much problems with the Scoob! Im on number 3, and have a 997 turbo as my other toy, just cant get the scoobs out of my blood!

Thanks for the welcome. I love the 997 turbo, my brother had a carrera 4 a year or so ago in black and it was a lovely car. Yes, I think the scoob has got into my blood very quickly

Yes my mate has a C4, your engine is good for 350HP with a few sensible mods so virtually the same power with a few tweaks! Wont be much else keeping up with a 350HP Scoob, unless its another tuned Impreza!!

Yes, I had read that it was good for up to 350 bhp. I have also read the reports about the issues with the 2.5 when you up the bhp too much. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

Which jag have you gone for? I had an s type 30l se before the xkr for 2 years and it was totally reliable. I only serviced it and had no repairs.

Roger I have an X Type 3.0. Sport, It has all the toys, Sat Nav, Electric seats, etc, I loved my Scoob owned it over 10 years, and felt it was time for a change, plus I always wanted a Jaguar, I wanted an XJ really but they would'nt fit in the garage so plummed for the X Type, and I am more than happy with it, everytime I get in it I where the same smile I did when I use too get in my Scoob.

Yes, The 30l sport x type is a good car. I tested one when they were first launched but couldn't afford one. I really liked the idea of it being all wheel drive. A few years later I managed to buy the s type with the same engine and as I said in my other post, it was trouble free. I have always loved the finish inside the jag.

Yes the scoob had only done 23000 miles when I picked it up with a full dealer service history. Would have been better with a specialist history in my opinion but it feels good and is mint so should be reliable.

can i ask, is there any reason you didn't go for the STi version of the car?

Yes, I wanted as low a milage car as I could get and I didn't want a car that was too raw after the jags. I know the sti's are better but for my budget the sti would be a higher milage. Also I have a mate who had a 01 wrx bug that he had for a few years with few problems. He modded his to 301 bhp. Admittedly, he did have to replace the gearbox, but I think that was after launching it a few times

sti classic cars are raw. new age hawkeye STis are actually quite civilised. i understand the mileage and money thing only too well. if you are not looking to modifiy it too much a wrx will be fine. the 5 speed gear boxes on newage cars aren't too bad, it was the old classic 5 speed boxes that tended to calve themselves on a regular basis.

To be honest, when I bought the wrx I had no intention of modding it further. If I do decide to go down that road in the future I would probably go for an sti as I am in agreement that the sti is the stronger car for that sort of thing. I didn't realise that the newer sti's were much more refined. I am really happy with the wrx as it is and I am not too worried about reliability issues at the power I am running as it is only about 260 bhp.

if you're happy with your purchase then all is good. enjoy the car for what it is. it's not an V8 jag that's for sure. no lazy power here. if you stay between 260 - 300hp you will be fine.

Hi all,
I'm doing the same Hawk Aye...well similar. Going from an X-Type 2.0D to a 2006 WRX. Paying for it tomorrow and picking it up on Monday. Cannot bloody wait!!! Time to go from an old mans car (as my mates call it - I'm only 35) to a proper car! Think I will probably miss the buttons and touch screen stuff but 0-60 in less than 6 seconds should put pay to that.

Hi Christo and welcome from a fellow newbie! Yes it is addictive the the way the scoobs handle. You will love it. I know what you mean about missing the toys in the jag, but it just doesn't seem to matter once you start diving Enjoy the car matey

Yes, I think I'll be struggling against the hurricane Glasgow to Kilmarnock, but hopefully after that it'll blow be all the way home! (Unless the bastid thing changes direction at the same time as me! ).

i myself love my scoob, just got my scooby recently after deciding my love of my life is to precious for me to drive around 24/7 my fully restored ford fiesta, and my pride and joy!
