I don't think they can tell what speed either of you were doing without the lines on the road pal

If there are no lines on the road then neither of you can be prosecuted. The lines are used to determine your speed, speed = distance over time. So they use the lines to see how far you have travelled in the time taken for the two flashes.
No lines = no proof of your speed.

Your safe buddy..

The camera takes two photos, so they'll see the other car has travelled further between the photos than you did.
You should be fine

the camera will be focused at the other drivers car, otherwise we would all hit the cameras over the limit on the other side of the road.

No lines = no ticket they need them to measure your speed. Still send that chill up your spine through doesn't it!

Cameras (Gatso I'm assuming?) are triggered by a vehicle passing over a number of induction loops in the roadway. When they are triggered they automatically measure the speed (time x distance travelled) and this is shown on the film (or digi image). It will also show which lane has triggered the camera. Road markings are for calibration and verification!!

With current local authority and police budgets being the way they are you've got a good chance of the camera being a dud!! A cop recently told me that less than 10% are live!!

No I'm not a cop either!! Look at my avatar
