Ha ha,yeah,i was getting overtaken by all sorts, but hey,i had to make the journey there n back without knwoing the locations of shell gaarges so was always wary of the fuel level, plus kids/missus and a car laiden with camping gear,it wouldnt of gone much faster LOL

Its a 95 WRX,not mapped but should be,only for optimum performance etc,running on a Z4 with k*n panel filter/bigger TMIC,Ninja sports CAT,HKS cat back exhaust

Excellent article in a back issue off Total impreza magazine where every year so many car makers hand over one off there cars for the annual mpg contest !! believe it or not Subaru handed over the new model Focus / sorry impreza sti !! and sure they got something like 37MPG !! and at some stages that was achieved sitting at legal motowary speeds, obviously this was down to some expert driving techniques, pre planned routes etc, etc etc !! couple off things to note were it was said that the air conditioning was not used as it can use up to an extra 5-7mpg - honestly ??!!

hence why I have yet to turn mine on since buying my first scooby a few months ago !! cheaper to put the window down !!

good thread thou, anyone else claim good MPG figures, particularly on the newage, driving constantly off boost ??!!

well done mate. you got me thinking about garage locations, I'm always a little scared of long journeys as I've heard such bad stories about Ultimate etc.

Was thinking, wouldn't it be good to know where all the shell garages are. Shell have an app:

Remap- does it make that much off a difference to mpg figures for the better, obviously providing you dont make use off the extra power available from it ??!!

Use it monthly to keep the seals lubricated, otherwise it will turn out more expensive in the long run.

When I bought my bug, it was from a lad in middlesbrough off NESF, he gimme directions to shell but got lost and ended up at tesco, so filled up with momentum, SAT NAV read 260 miles to home, obv just buying the car I didnt want to nail it( well I did) lol but I resisted
when I got home the needle was just about over half! I would say between 60-85 all the way home (MWAY) but then the next day went to show a few m8s my new PnJ and it drank my 2nd half on a 40-50 mile round trip ( no MWAY driving) car is bug wrx, cat back, KnN panel filter NO MAP

I'm suprised by my 320R kept it in sport mode did't bother with inteligent mode don't fancy running a 2.5 lean

I was averaging 36mpg driving to the Nurbugring 75-85mph following a range rover pulling a car trailer, which being a moblie Brick did really help but got bored and gave it some in germany for a mile or 2 still ended up 34mpg 320 miles off a tank IIRC

on the way back (not following trailer) got 32mpg and 340 miles off tank IIRC

TBH i'm more shocked that we haven't had someone post "if you have to monitor MPG, you shouldn't own a blah blah blah etc etc"

My record is 35mpg on a long airport run with the parents in the car, so civilised driving.

290bhp wrx.

What's the best way to check your mpg, never done it or cared about it before would be good to know how well she is running and what's possible when driving sensibly. 70miles Round trip to Manchester planned tomorrow.

Brim the tank before you leave, zero your trip meter, brim the tank again after your journey when the tank is empty-ish, record how many miles you did, how many litres it took to refill and use the following calculation.

miles / litres * 4.545

miles divided by litres multiplied by 4.545 = MPG.

or if you cant find a calculator or something, use this link

http://www.mpg-calculator.co.uk/

If you've hot a smart phone get yourself an app mate. I agree and understand that were all driving heavy drinkers so talking about mpg may seem daft but if we spend so much of our hard earned cash on it then why not talk about it?!

I'm currently averaging 33mpg which is about 20p a mile. If I need to travel a distance I just use that figure to gauge how much juice ill need

My hatch it has a display, its shown me that if i do (what the car tells me) 32mpg (thats about as good as it gets) for just 300 miles, its only <<really>> doing 20mpg :O

normally, im getting 21mp on the computer 220 miles to a tank (65 litres i think)
that only worked out at 15mpg...
