Default how can it cost so much

hi all, now ive been toying with the idea while my engine is apart of fitting some new forged pistons and rods, i got a quote of around 2.5k which i dont think included rods, not bad i thought but then i found the following.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wisec...3a806d40d#shId

i have been in touch with the us seller and they can deliver them to my door all in for ......... £532.00 or $877.91

so 500 smacker what a bargin, next question is if i am right and my above quote didnt include rods ,how can they justify the extra £2000, now i know that the man has a business to run over heads to cover but i am only handing him an engine ,i am prety sure it would cost no more than another £800 to have the machineing and fitting of said parts complete.

so if i am right for the same parts thats a £1332.00

Thats a saving of £1168. thats a small fortune. am i missing something or is this what you all do??

Ye its cheaper over in the states. I have bought from that company before & they are cool.

Just be careful with tax/duty as that can be a killer.

It can be avoided but risks are involved.

Depends if they think its a gift or not. If they open it or scan it you will be screwed.

Go onto UPS website & have a read. Realstreetperformance use UPS.

http://www.ups.com/content/gb/en/shi...dditional.html

So the lower the value of the item the lower the charges

not paying VAT and import duties is a criminal offense. you pays your money you takes your chance. a reputable company in the states should not be shipping stuff with a woefully under estimated value of the goods being shipped. its a federal offense in the states as well. plus if it gets lost or damaged in transit and they need to claim on insurance they are screwed.

i would suggest the £2.5k is for more than rods and pistons. Some engine builders on here do a complete forged rebuild, drive in drive out for that price. i would ask the engine builder for a break down of what he is doing and what parts he is supplying before you splash the cash. check out enginebuilder or api, they do some cracking deals on stroker kits.

No point buying the stuff from the States if there's no one to fit it and provide a warranty.........which is the bonus for one of the fixed price "drive in-drive out" conversions. What you buy is peace of mind which is difficult to put a price on

I'll leave Bigsinky to reply to the above post.................

nope not a copper but have seen some businesses over here get hefty fines for not paying import duty and VAT on pallet loads of stuff they tried to get by the excise and duty people.

I am as keen as the next guy to get a good bargain and we get royally fcuked by the vat and excise man everytime, but i think it would be remiss of us not to point out the fact that by conning HMRC out of their pound of flesh there will be consequences.

As i said in my previous post, you pays your money you takes your chance, but you will find that a lot of US companies will not even consider sending stuff marked as a gift or give a greatly underestimated value of the package so their customers can offset the import duty or charges.

Hope has cleared up any confusion on your part. As for muppet, well yes, those who know me have seen me in there a few times.
