Default 06 Hawkeye vs. wrx hatch

hi

right... I currently have a new shape wrx, 57 plate (sorry) with 38k and have been offered a straight swap for an 06 plate hawkeye sti with 55k.

Despite all things I actually like the hatch but fancy something a bit more....

However, Im not sure if this is a decent deal?

What is the general opinion? how do the residuals of the 2 compare?

thanks for any input.

no i think he ment sti as you would need a hell of a lot more than a ecu and decat in a wrx for 400bhp such as clutch gearbox turbo fmic fuel pump full map .

i think he just has his figs wrong

Spec D's seem difficult to shift on if you ever wanted to. Also I assume you know there will be a huge increase in tax between your WRX and 06 onwards sti's although I can't remember which category the Hatch WRX falls into. Also once you start modding your car allow some extra cash for your rising insurance. Standard cars can be insured by most companies on line for reasonable rates as soon as you start modding you need to go to people like Keith Michaels to find someone who will insure you and at a sensible price. Good luck.

the new shape hatch falls into the silly money tax bracket too
.. the insurance would be more tho.

how do you think the resale values would compare between the 2 vehicles in say a years time.

If I was paying that much tax I would want a 'performance' car so the Sti, 400+ quid for a WRX is madness. The Hatch is still not as favoured as the Hawk and Sti's seem to sell better than WRX as have more appeal but only to us select people on these forums, others laugh at mpg and tax on both cars which will only be worse in the future. In answer to your question in the current market the sti should level out but the hatch WRX will probably freefall some more. If you are thinking of selling in a year's time and worried about the loss don't buy another Subaru but the loss in cash is outweighed by the smile on your face driving one - I have lost thousands but don't tell the wife I told you that!

for the most part Spec D's will be £10K plus, if running costs i.e petrol insurance etc are not an issue then go with the dealer option above AND get 6 months warranty thrown in

well that didnt work out... been to look at both cars and can see exactly why they are so keen to get rid..

the type D has paperwork to say its had 2 HG failures (fixed under warranty) and the type UK just looked really unclean and uncared for... nevermind

Think I'll just remap the hatch

Thats your best option, better the dog you know, and you will get very close to sti figures without the rough ride, wrx = better daily driver. imo

True, the costs are less on the WRX, but the OP asked which to go for and I'd have to say the Hawk STi is the one to go for.

I went from a WRX to an STi (I use the term loosely, it's actually a T20 Spec C) and have never looked back - and that was a mapped WRX with Prodrive springs and TD04 Hybrid turbo).

Go on OP, go for it!
