Question

My boss is getting a seat leon turbo with a super chip.. Claims 215bhp.

Do I need to worry about being beaten by a Seat or is it all hot air.

Your coments...

Thanks

Looks like just the excuse to invest in a S/S exhaust system to me! go on, you know you want it!

Is it the VT (4WD)?
It is still a Seat!
Yes, i know, owned by VW but so is Skoda and RR (shudder!) so what
It still looks pants!
Std 180 BHP 0-60 in 7.7 for the 2wd
would not worry too much, i would imagine it is quick in a straight line and interesting.
on the twisty bitz
can't fing any info on its weight or BHP per tonne so difficult to draw a comparison

NAH.......Now worries there I've driven one they are okay in a straight line but you will P*** all round him on the twisty bits cos they are not a car you can throw around too good cos the back end comes round pretty sharp....And if it's 2WD He'll still be spinning and you will be away quicker than he can blink.

Red face

Yes Ive got one at home and so has Neil Riley on this board. In std form you have nothing to worry about. However with his chip, its going to be pretty close. The weight is roughly the same, and so is the power. I considered chipping mine, but as it the wifes car its wasted on her

Leons big problem is putting down the power in the wet. When ESP cuts in it seems to take for ever to get full power back.

Handling wise, it pretty good. As much fun as a Scooby in the dry, might not trust it as much in the wet.

Thumbs down

I have a new(1 week old)Seat Leon Cupra 20vt at home(Wife's -'Top Banana' as she calls it!) with my MY99 PPP Wagon.

No comparison!!

Had the Cupra at 13.5mph(correction that must have been kph)and have already activated the traction control on every slow understeering corner possible. It's a Golf in drag!
With a chip and 2wd my experience is that it may not be much fun in dry or wet.Anyway who wants a modern Alfasud?

I didn't know they did a 4WD one. I thought the only 4wd VAG stuff of that size was Audi A3 1.8T quattro, S3 and Golf 4Motion.

The company that does the work is called Automotive Developments (WWW.AUTO-AMD.COM)

From what I've been told the MD is an Ex-Seat Technical Manager of some sort, they map the chip on a rolling road.

They also do Porsche's, Audi's/VW's/Seats'.

They are based down in Oddington, Oxford.

I had my old Mk3 Golf GTI 16v Chipped by AMD.
Great bunch off lads (Geoff???).

Car was put on rollers 1st, made 152.1Bhp.
After £250 re-chip was re-rollered at 175.5Bhp which is VR6 Territory.
Apparently the 16v engine was de-tuned to fit in the range 8v, 16v & VR6. Completely changed the cars road manners and with the car running on 17's and slammed it would upset a few people round the twisties.

Since moved on to UK MY97 Scoob in '99 and now STI V TypeR V-Ltd which is just the bomb.

Cheers
Chris.

Question

My neighbour has a nice MTM Germany modded Audi A4 1.8T sport which he said was chipped up-to something like 225 bhp. Along with the 225's on 17 inch alloys, over AP slotted/four-pots and a monster (almost scoobysport) sounding exhaust.

He mentioned he was once all over the back of an Impreza Turbo along some windy roads and could hear the Impreza being gunned out of the corners.

He's probably quite a talented driver/nutter and knew the road I can't vouch for the fabled Impreza driver!

Since then he's returned to a standard chip/map because of standard high-speed cutout and reliability problems.

Also I think it grips well for a FWD, but I wouldn't call it handling (especially compared to a scooby unless it's poorly), although I've only had a drive in it on a public road, back to 150bhp form. Brakes are good, compared to my MY97 Scooby.

If it really was 225 bhp, that's a bit more than a 220-230 standard scooby at the wheels, remembering our extra 4WD transmission losses.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info everyone.

Still need to get a few mods, as I feel my scoob needs a voice. Have another thread running on that topic.

Cheers
