Just wondering how many of you are living on borrowed time, running 400bhp'ish and still on a STANDARD 5 speed box?
Looking to know actual power, which version your 5 speed originated, how long you've maintained that level on the same box and driving style/usage (track or drag etc)... Would also like to hear instances of what power levels 5 speed boxes have failed.
Thanks

So the later TY754 boxes (as legend would have it) are the stronger boxes compared to the earlier TY752? Are we talking only the TY754 in the later STI's or are they the same boxes that are also in the later Turbo2000's etc?
I realise any box can give up on standard power, never mind 40-50% increases... Just trying to guage which is strongest on average
Yep no issues what so ever. Recently changed the oil and the dropped oil appeared clean enough.
I know its a bit of a gamble but for me its paid off.
I think its the casing that is stronger on the TY754. I dont think its that much stronger tho.

I was running 375 bhp by 390 torque on a ty752 box ending with CAA (short ratio one), car was driven hard, launched it 67 times on the drag strip over 2 years and around the same amount on road...never had any problems with it, even ran a 12.2 1/4 mile...

I realise its torque, but the difference in BHP to torque is never great and there will be a lot more people that know an estimate of their BHP than the torque.
What are you currently running?
Running 390bhp in a STI V3. The 752 box developed crunchy 4th and 5th after about 5K so have now swapped it for a 754 box out of a P1. So far so good.
Never launch my car but do drive it hard.
Will be pushing the limits in the next few weeks as I'm going for bigger injectors and 10% meth mix. Should see power above 410.
I've heard of P1 boxes at over 450 without any issues, just need to be a little sympathetic.

... Please correct me if I'm wrong though
[quote=M4RKG;10119383]... I'd assume not long.

im running 360 on my 28 with 20% meth at the min just finishing off the shoping list with the turbo injectors ect then up to see bob for the new remap

P.S. (mine had done 135,000 miles when it went).

always one... okay, so its 6-1
But loads of gearboxes will be on the way out after 135'000 miles of normal driving, never mind how people drive Impreza's

mines stripped 2nd gear on my 2000 turbo running 280 bhp with 70 odd thousand miles and i was pulling away from a speed bump lol so never say never it can happen at any power level lol.
Mine ate 2nd gear at 380/350 after 2weeks of fitting my 18g and supporting mods. I always looked after my box with regards to oil etc. Didn't make much diff. Now at 480/500 with millers 75/140nt oil in, I can use my power without the will it break thing always on my mind. Costly going to 6 speed but I'm sure I'd of gone through the same amount of value in 5 speed boxes by now so for me it was a no brainer going to 6 speed.
I thinkthe 5 speed isue is purely down to luck and driving style IMO.

It's well known standard 5 speeds don't take much except for the odd occasion or mechanical sympathy. But what's he point in having the power if your not gonna use it? Bit stoopid?
The 6 people on here who have said what you want to hear are 6 people out of 1000s of Imprezas so I wouldn't say 'there's always one'. There's probably loads more than just me, regardless of miles.

Ran about 380-400 on my old 2.0L with the 20G and methanol on my 752 box without it ever grenading as well.
But I'm always waiting for it to happen, which in it's self can be quite worrying if I'm far from home.
