Default Sponsorship

I'm not too sure how to go about doing this but I feel that with last years results and the potential improvements this year I think the time is right to seek some sponsorship of sorts to help with getting the car finished for the season ahead.

Some of you will know the car itself some won't so lets start there.

It's a complete DIY driveway build with only the mapping and the paintwork being done by third parties.

It was the March 2011 Japanese Performance Cover car with an 8 page feature.

I won the Scooby shoot out Modified drag class last year (the car's and my first ever go on the 1/4 mile)

This was consolodated with a 10.90 @ 129mph at York Dragway the following week.

Here's the car

Here's the spec:

ENGINE
EJ257 2.5L block modified and strengthened with block pins
RCM 14mm WRC head stud Conversion
EJ257 79mm Crank
ACL Race series main and Big End bearings
Pauter X Beam Conrods
Cosworth 99.75 High Compression Pistons
RCM 12mm High flow High Pressure Oil Pump
Cosworth Stopper head gaskets
2006 Variable Cam Timing (VVT) heads
Supertech 1 Piece Stainless steel nitrided Inlet Valves
Supertech 1 Piece Inconel Exhaust Valves
Supertech Double Valve springs
RCM Uprated Spring seats (for correct spring preload)
RCM Titianium WRC spring retainers
2005 Inlet manifold and throttle body
Walbro Intank Lift pump
SM engineering fuel swirlpot
Bosch 044 Motorsport inline fuel pump
Billet fuel rails
1100cc Injector Dynamics Injectors
SX fuel Pressure regulator
Braided fuel hoses with goodridge fittings throughout.
Samco Silicon Hoses throughout
Front mounted Garret GT35R Billet turbo
Scoobyclinic Front Mount intercooler
Tial 44mm External Wastegate
Exedy Twin Plate Clutch and flywheel
R180 Plated rear Diff
Blitz Mirror Drive gauges
18 Ultralite A-Tech Wheels
Braided brake lines thoughout (from master cylinder to caliper)
Syvecs Engine management with Launch Control, anti lag and datalogging.

The car will be entered into Scoobyshoot out, put forward for TOTB selection, plenty of RWYB drag days and a few grudgement days events and similar at Elvington. The car will also feature at many shows and get togethers throughout the summer months. Hopefully I'll get a few more magazine articles too.`

Graphics wise the car will be a blank canvas in white so I'm open to ideas and suggestions as the RCM ones will be removed to make way for something new and fresh. With regard to my requirements I'll list what I need and we can take things from there.

Gearbox, ideally a built 5 speed but willing to look at Hawkeye 6 speed ( I already have a UK R180 diff and an Exedy Twin Plate Clutch.

Brakes, Ideally a good six pot set up with seperate bells and rotors (K Sport AP etc)

Rotated Turbo Exhaust pipe work ( I already have a Billet 35R and 44mm Wastegate and tubular manifold)

Exhaust System 3inch (Downpipe back and must pass noise regs)

Vernier Exhaust Pulleys for AVCS heads.

Harnesses preferably 4 point in red (aircraft release type)

A set of aftermarket cams for single AVCS heads (hawkeye) ideally Cosworth S2 or similar

Finally oils and fluids for gearbox and engine.

So that's my shopping list.

What can I offer in return for any of the above?

Room for you to put your prominent branding on the car . The car will be happily made available for shows and photoshoots.
It will be seen at many events throughout the year and will compete in as many as possible.

I'm also a web designer with hosting facilities so could perhaps incorporate some of that into the equation too.

So if this is of interest to anyone feel free to get in touch. Anything discussed will be treated with in complete confidence.

Please PM me to discuss your requirements.

Cheers for reading

Daz

Silly question maybe Daz but aren't RCM sponsoring you?
Fantastic achievement with the car BTW.

IIRC the stickers were Daz's take on the Gobstopper Maz, not for any sort of sponsorship.

Ah right. Still it's advertising for them, it would be good of them to give something back to Daz.

Just to add the only reason the rcm stuff is coming off is because I fancy a change. I think the new rcm car will have the diagonal stripes and many would just see me ad copying that. Naturally I want the car to have it's own identity.

Best of luck. The car is a good showcase and would prove to be a worthy trailer for any sponsor.

Think about it from a prospective sponsors point of view: What can you do for them and what do they get out of giving you money? Where will the car be seen? What audience? How much interest will it create for your sponsors? It's a minefield...for example how many rally cars are running with genuine, paid up sponsors? Most I know from national championships advertise personal or family businesses.

I know where you're coming from. I've never done anything like this before and had no idea how to go about doing such a thing. I did think about approaching certain companies but decided that a post on here would be a good way to gauge things in the first instance. Let's face it it can't do any harm.

As for what I can offer, that's simple, good exposure for any company. The car is fairly well known and from just one event (SSO last year) there's several You Tube videos of it. Once its up and running again, it will be attending lots of shows and competing at lots of events. I'm sure there'll be future magazine interest too. Think of what it costs to advertise in magazines these days. Then think of a contribution any sponsor will make for the amount of exposure in said Mags etc then it starts to make economical sense not to mention helping me immensely.

I'm not expecting anyone to fund me or offer cash as i know it doesnt work like that. However it would be tremendous help if I get interest and various companies start providing some of the things I've listed.

We'll see what happens, I can but try and it's certainly worth trying. What's the worst that can happen? I don't get any interest and feel embarrassed about writing the post in the first place. I can live with that

Another thing that sponsors like is a free day at one of your events. We used to take sponsors to rallies and put guided mini buses on to get them from a breakfast location (usually a hotel) to the stages and then to the rally finish. Quite easy for a circuit event as everything is in one place and they get to see you a few times!

Daz,
FWIW (based on my previous and current experience of attaining sponsorship).....

In my experience you are best off approaching companies or individuals directly. Most if not all companies will ask "what's in it for me"..... you need a business plan in effect, to explain what you are going to do for them. Obviously this all depends on what level you are looking at.... I like to think big.

Sponsorship / support is never easy and you are always judged on what you have delivered previously (this is obviously difficult for the first instance). For serious sponsorship you need to provide a clear picture (as substantiated as possible) of what you are going to provide them back. Gone are the days that exposure via forums or mag features is enough.... you need to go the extra mile imo.

It aint easy to maintain or even deliver what has been agreed (in many cases), and it (imo) is a lot of hard work for the person being sponsored.... and so it should be in reality. You get F all for F all these days!

Good luck!

Thanks for the insight Shaun as I know you've walked the walk on this one.

I'm not for one second suggesting I'll be winning everything but I know that I can any companies that do help out some very good exposure. When you compare this to advertising costs for instance it then becomes quite worth while.

I'm also going to do a website (bearing in mind I do that for a living) that will be solely based around the car and its build. This will include a blog, a detailed build diary and offer cross linking to their web sites. If you know what you're doing its quite easy to get a good throughput of traffic to a site. Thankfully I know what I'm doing with this stuff so that should also be attractive to any potential sponsor.

I do think you're right though in that a more direct approach may be required. I just thought I'd start a generic thread here to gauge response. It's early days with this yet and I'll be doing as many events as I can anyway it would just be nice to have a little help. I've got this far on my own. I know other chaps manage to strike deals and things si I thought I'd have a go myself. I've worked long and hard to get the car as capable as it is. With a little assistance I can take it a whole lot further.

Hopefully there's a few companies out there that think the same and won't mind offering a little assistance

I'm pleased to say that CDF Racing have also agreed some sponsorship.
I spoke to Chris today and he's going to provide a set of their Vernier pulleys.

and I shall be the test mule for their new Six pot Brake kit that's currently in the design stages. I'm incredibly excited about this as it would be great to help bring awareness for new products coming to market.

Hi Daz,
(It's Paul Habgood)

I have a little experience of getting sponsorship. The BIG question all potential sponsors will want to know is what is in it for them?

You need to put together some idea of the exposure you will be getting to the public/customers via live meets/events, TV/media coverage (publicity) and anything else you can think of.

How your sponsorship prospect fits with their brand(s) products and will it appeal to their. existing and potential customers and will it generate awareness of their brands/products.

Anything you already have such as magazine articles, etc is good stuff to show them.

Have a good think about who potential sponsors might be from big companies down to local suppliers/cmpanies.

Your initial contact must be good and hook them and get you in front of them.

I know you are no ones fool so a lot of this you probably already know but i thought i would cover it off.

PM me if you want to pick my brain (such as it is) for anything else.

Good Luck!
