Default Cleaning my car...

Am I the only one of the opinion that, although we have nice cars, I'm not too bothered when its dirty. Mines gone about 5 months without being washed now, simply because its too cold outside to bother doing it!

Finally done it today, first time since around September :-)

Anyone else not too concerned when their car gets dirty?

Nope, I really don't care - I'm doing 500 miles a week, it gets dirty again the first time I drive it.

Anyway, Imprezas are supposed to be rally cars, a bit of mud/dust/dirt kind of complements the look

Dirty Imprezas end up looking like council estate beater/pool cars. Just need mismatched alloys next and a panel with a mismatched colour.

Probably makes me a sad git but I quite enjoy cleaning my Impreza. Usually give it a polish on a Sunday afternoon, gives me an hour away from the wife which is a plus point ofcourse.

i spend a lot of time and money on my car, so i wash and wax it at least once a week if not more if its dirty and also very carefull where i park it as its nice and straight and i want to keep it that way.
the more you clean it the better the paint finish stays and looks far better when its time to sell.
also its not a rally car its a road car
rally cars race around rally stages your car is used on the road!
i had a toyota once when they were in formula one and i dont remember it having 1 seat and 700 bhp

Fine, Fine, Rally Heritage then. But thanks for clearing that up for me, the fog of confusion over such matters has caused me untold issues - I used to drive a Renault Clio - I often though I was driving a Renault Articulated Lorry.

To be honest, it strikes me as being a fool's errand, given the roads I've been driving on over the past 6 months, after 50 miles (one trip to the office) it's dirty again. So short of it *being on my drive* the car will look filthy to anyone who sees it on the road.

Better things to do with my time TBH (like posting on SN )

Mines washed fairly regularly, making sure that the arches, the underneatrh and anywhere that mud can collect is clean.

I get shouted at all the time by the misses.

I clean the car everytime i get a chance. It's not just a quick rub down either.

2 x washes
dried
Mcguires cleaner wax - gets rid of all the swirls and crap out the paint work
Prestige turtle wax
Prestige resin

That's usually a good 4 hours.

The following day i start on the engine bay.

The next is the interior and any little mods.

Yes, i'm very sad but i love my car and try my very best to look after it.

I'm sure they go quicker and last longer, i.e don't go wrong when they're clean.

When I part exchanged my first Impreza, the main dealer agreed what I wanted for the car over the phone against a new WRX PPP. When I turned up he looked at my car he said "I really want that car on my forecourt". He upped his p ex offer by £250 and knocked £500 off the new car price without me having to ask. My car was sold before going on the forecourt. Dealer called me a few weeks later and asked if it was ok for the new owner to call me to find out how to keep DBM paint looking so good. Based on my experience it pays to look after your car properly.

Only if your time isn't worth anything to you

Say you have the car for 4 years (on average), you clean it every week, 2.5 hours on the outside, hour on the engine bay, 1/2 hour inside - 4 hours

That's 832 hours spent keeping the car clean - therefore the discount you got at the stealers means you were effectively working for that discount at £1.10 / hour.

I value my time higher than that. Of course I don't have a shiny car at the moment either.

Of course I am mostly pulling your leg - there's plenty of pointless things that I do which most people would consider a waste.

I'm not having a dig, but there are better products out there rather than Turtle wax.

What's Prestige Resin? It sounds like a polish if it is it needs to go on before the wax

Have a look here www.polishingbooth.com.

I hate washing my car now. Everytime i do, i find a new dent or scratch or that someones keyed it or stone chips, its grim as ****.

Even worse, once i've actually got it all washed and shiny, i step back and look at it and its still a feckin Alfa Romeo ffs.

Pride is over-rated.

Anyway, I seeing as I spend most of the time sat inside the car - I can't see if it's dirty or not!

That said, I do keep the inside clean and hoovered, and the glass is always clean, I do like to see where I'm going!

I spend at least five hours every week cleaning my 2 Scoobys

2 bucket method and 2 for wheels

All chemical guys products
Miracle and medium waffle towels to pat them (not rub)Dry
Insides are done on a rota
Then they are back into the garage
Green one comes out once a week as it's eleven years old since I got it
Blue one is my everyday car now

I thought your Friday night activity was a euphemism for something else! Well you did say 'she' and 'hoovered inside', then you mention the Scoob after.

The time I spend cleaning my car is my time. I enjoy it. I don't put a value on my time, I certainly wouldn't spend the time you obviously did working out my hourly rate, I'd rather be keeping my car clean.
