Hi Mike and welcome to the forums.

I just picked up a totally standard 53 Plate WRX Blobeye last week.

I would say a FSH is a must and preferably with receipts too for all work carried out. Should have had it's cambelt changed in 2008 so check that in the service book as that costs about £385 at dealers. Suspension seems a bit suspect on these models and a lot of people end up putting coilovers on. Check for usual leaks, no smoke on startup, oil, oil filler cap. Listen for any bottom end noise on start up, you may hear a little piston slap but this should disappear when warmed up. Take it for a good test drive and make sure everything works as it should with no strange noises. My cars last service done by previous owner came to £835. But that was a major service at Subaru Dealer and included all fluids plus rear brakes pads and discs.

Mines has 90K miles but picked it up for £3.8K

Also I am but a newb so hopefully more expertise will come along and give more details buddy.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

6k is a lot mate my mates gonna pick up a blob sti next week for £6700 ppp isnt a must just a little more power, mileage isnt an issue as long as its been serviced and looked after by a reputable specialist or dealer, accident damage is one to look out for and servicing costs aint that bad i would keep looking for a cheaper one if it was me loads out there too

Mileage not an issue if the car has been regularly serviced/loked after.
Servicing costs are reasonable if you use a specialist rather than a main stealer.
Common problems are drive shafts and knocking rear shocks.
PPP not worth the extra cash, a custom remap will give better performance and in most cases, better mpg.

How set on a Blob WRX are you? I agree with Dean, i'd look on Pistonheads at the STIs first, there are quite a few for £6k (both Bugs and Blobs).

I haven't sold my 182 yet so need a dealer sale realy.

I was going for a wrx mainly for cost reasons- insurance, purchase price, runing should all be cheaper?

Is rust an issue on the age of cars I'm looking at and is a clutch replacement near by on a 40 odd K car ????
