Default Think i may have been done by a dealer!!

Im not going to mention any names for the moment until i have chance to talk to them directly but not sure how to play this....

I purchased my 08 sti last june from a main dealer, at the point of sale the dealer said they had a PPP kit they removed from a car and i could have it at a discount, think i paid between 500-600.

Anyway been driving the car happiley until i went out in a 330s, went a lot better than mine which got me wondering.....

a quick check under the car and it seems i only have a prodrive rear box, but the 2nd cat's still there !!!, i thought this was replaced with the PPP, i also have concerns about the ECU still being STD but do not know how to check

On the invoice it states "Exhaust & ECU reflash" is the prodrive just a reflashed ECU or a replacment part?

Any advice?

Prodrive ECU is (or was on my blob) a totally new ECU, Dealers just program your door keys to the ECU.....a PPP Used to be Prodrive (blue) intercooler Y pipe, ECU, rear Box, and de cat

Does seem very odd....why would they remove a full PPP??.....why would they sell it for £500, its around £2k depending on what dealer you phone....i'm thinking you may have been done here.....the 330 should feel similar, the difference should not be day and night for sure.

Im pretty sure the prodrive upgrade includes

* Prodrive rear back box
* 2nd cat removed
* Blue turbo to intercooler hose
* Prodrive ECU remap (I'd guess its just the standard ECU remapped, I'd be suprised if they actually swap units over)
* Prodrive Certificate in the service manual (probably only issued if the PPP is fitted at new)

Maybe a friendly remapper could hook your car up to a laptop and download the ECU's map to see what its doing.

Not sure of that, might be on the prodrive web site....they have some power graphs/ torque stats etc.....

I would have thought an sti PPP would have felt very similar to a 330....

I suspect that the Salesman has pocketed your money in exchange for a Prodrive Backbox!!!

Get another Subaru Main Dealer to check your set-up ..... even if they charge you it will be money well spent (about £50?).

I'd guess you could say you've been diddled already cos the 2nd cat is still on. They may or may not have remapped / changed the ECU either but the 2nd cat could be bottle necking everything.

I'd get on the blower to them and see what was actually fitted and by who.

This is what concerns me, it is now 8 months since i purchased the car and all the invoice states is Exhaust & ECU reflash, what i need to understand if this constitutes a PPP

i dont think yours would be s quick as the 33s as the sti prodrive is only 305 bhp. not really much difference between 330 and 305 but you would feel it, i guess it also depends on how aggressive the map is.

The ECU reflash could be the one all 08 STi's were recalled for to help stop then from going pop

•Recalibrated engine management system
•High flow intercooler hose
•Stainless steel sports exhaust silencers

This is what the PPP consists of for the 08 STI>.

Clearly stickered up prodrive....think i would be taking a look under the carpets if it were me, by far the most expensive part of the PPP is the ECU .... Go take a look, so if its labelled up??

The sticker will have been put on by the dealer when flashed, you don't get a replacement ECU. Not all dealers put stickers on the ECU either. The power upgrade on the 08 STI should be 330 Bhp too.

To clear all this up the PPP KIT on a MY08> Consists of the following

Prodrive Backbox
2'nd Decat Pipe.
Recalibrated Std ECU, If you pull the passenger carpet back and remove the tin plate if the security screws have been removed and replaced with bolts take them out and take a look at the top of the ecu it will be marked.

Ring subaru or prodrive, they will have a record if your car is registered as ppp or not. That's how I checked mine. Good luck.

im not claiming to be an expert on this but,a remap on an ecu cant be taken out and passed on to another car, that is more than likely why you only payed so little,i suspect you have been tucked up here, once a ppp has been added to a vehicle it wouldnt make sense financially(due to labour costs)to remove and refit the exhaust parts and map the ecu,the 500 or 600 hundred you payed would probably be the the main stealers way of recovering some of the cost of having the original ecu mapped to start with then resetting the original ecu back to standard and removing the exhaust,he has just given you the back box so it looks like you got something for your money,i hope im wrong.....good luck.

Yeah - but only for the original purchaser.
If you buy a second hand PPP, it most likely won't make it as far as Subaru.

Nope, that’s not true. I’m the second owner of my car and when rolling roaded it produced more than expected. I wanted to find out if the last owner had fitted the ppp to it so rang Subaru and Prodrive. Only have to quote your number plate as any car that has had the prodrive kit fitted at any time in its life will be listed on their register. Takes 5 minutes. Is very very easy!!!!

Basically, if Subaru or Prodrive have flashed the ECU at any stage then it will be registered!

I've just bought an Sti PPP hatch. The car came with a blue WRSport Prodrive Performance Package certificate showing both the reg no and chassis no of the car. The car is 330PS with 347lb ft, identical to the 330s and is identical both mechanically and externally to the 330s inlcuding the 18" wheels which is also part of the PPP package.
