rust spots????

Default rust spots????

hi have noticed rust spots on my exhaust tail pipe and have only had it on a month i know the steel is Mandrel Bent T-304 Stainless Steel not really shore how good this is but wouldnt of thought it would go like that in a month or would it????

It will be purely surface based. A little Autosol to polish it up and it will be grand!

If you're just talking about some spots on the tail pipe then a polish every couple of weeks will keep it looking new. You can also buy metal sealant which can help, but ultimately on SS pipes it's on the surface so a quick polish will suffice.

ok thanks for the info, i guess this is what you get when you go for cheaper cat backs etc, should of gone for a well known brand nevermind!!

ive had s/s exhausts rust/tarnish quite bad,think there are several levels of s/s and the cheaper stuff does rust unfortuanately.

As above, 304 grade looks nice and shiny in the shops but its chemical composition does not bode well in a chloride environment. It contains quite high levels of iron and nickel (hence will be magnetic) which are not found in 'true' stainless grades such as 316 for example. Sealed and cleaned regularly it should remain in decent enough condition. Unless you've got any deep scratches on it then it will be largely surface rust, although 304 will tarnish very easily and there is little you can do to stop it (at home anyway).
