Whack it with a hammer, use to happen all the time on my old cavalier - the accumulation of brake dust combined with water just turned it into glue. Good smack usually freed it, either that or just try rocking it

have you tried rocking it back and forth, (i.e. handbrake off, first - reverse - first - reverse etc ) this usually will free a mildly seized handbrake.

edit: sorry, already been suggested above.

Just hit the face of the drum part of the disc, best to remove the wheel

If rocking fails lol

With a front wheel chocked and in gear or park remove hand brake, using a soft hammer hit the brake drum between the wheel fixings, the shock should release the drum and it should now turn freely.

It's going to be the handbrake and not the caliper. Unlikely that BOTH calipers would seize on at once.

Sometimes my old classic would do this especially if I'd not used it for a couple of weeks. I often didn't realise and just pull off as normal. There would be a bit of clunk from the back of the car as they released but would then be fine.
Have you tried just driving it and see if it releases.
The wheels really need to be on a good tarmac/concrete surface, so if its parked on a gravel drive it may want to just drag the back wheels and be a bit more difficult.

The link seems to be working fine.

if it is handbrake related, cable snapped etc, remove the rubber grommet on the backplate and back the cog thingy off a few turns, remember how many for when all working again, using a screwdriver, should be enough adjustment to move the car again

I'll join the club - this happened to me this weekend, car hasnt been used for two weeks, and just before xmas I started getting a bit of a clunk from the back when starting off, I just put it down to really cold weather.

Problem I have is that there is a car parked in front and behind on a street, so I cant push it too far otherwise I will whack someone else!

FFS - my wife is due to give birth this week, and this is all I need !

I was worried it could be more serious, rear diff or something??

I had this issue on a car I was working on recently. left it to stand, and all seized up. I would have just driven it to release it, but starter motor was also seized!! so went for the aggressive option, got a big diesel vectra with a tow rope, pulled my project car to unseize the brakes, and bump started it at the same time! job done

this happens on mine too. my drive is flat/level so i just park up and leave it in gear. it may help to pull the handbrake up slighty whilst driving just to clean it up a bit as it can corrode slightly inside which causes the sticking in the damp winter months, jason

Are you mad. To anyone that is reading this thread. DO NOT go anywhere near the brake shoes or brake pads with a can of WD40.

That is the worst advice I have ever read on here by some mile.

Er, I think that if your silly enough to coat your brakes in WD40, you deserve to deal with the results!

Don't worry JonMc, i saw the sarcasm...

haha, sorry, my bad. I am new here. next thing you know, people will be sticking matches in the fuel tank to "pre-burn" the fuel, or something like that...

(Disclaimer - for those that spray WD40 on brakes, DO NOT put matches in the fuel tank... )
