Default NEVER Use ATS Tires!!

Well im not happy 1 bit, before christmas i ordered some tires from my local ATS tire stores. they could do me 225/45/17 Dunlop winter sports for £500 fitted with free tracking. which kwik fit had qouted £568.

so i agreed with ATS. they got my tires in and gave me a call. a guy off here i was getting the wheels from was having a little trouble with spacers for his new wheels. so i was delayed at getting his old wheels. so i called ats to tell them the situation. i offered to come down and pay a deposit to secure them till i got the wheels. they assured me it was ok and they had my name on them so they wouldnt go to any 1 eles. i though great! top lads!

anyway i called them today to see if they could fit me in? they now tell me the've sold the tires and the only 1s they can now get are £760 ive tried my local kwik fit who qouted me before ats, they tell me they cant get any winter tires anywere? the uk supplies are out of stock

I have my ferry booked and flight bk home book too. was due to go to austria to deliver the car.

so thanks ATS cleckheaton, w/yorkshire. what a proper **** up you've caused.

rant over.

I know for a fact STS on St Albans Rd in Barnet have a full selection of winter tyres. It just depends on where you are or which way you are traveling to Austria, as these guys are literally 5 mins away from the M25 at J23

That's shocking mate Did you go down to the unit and suggest to the manager they should price match out of good will? It's not your fault they couldn't keep their house in order.

That's B*****Ks mate! The tyre companies are all cashing in. I had to pay an extra £100 for 2 tyres, they were the last 2 and I knew the guys so I knew there hands were tied.
They guys reckoned the shortage is due to Germany introducing a new law stating that cars must ave winter tyres on during the winter season. Apparently the shipments that were due to come to the UK we're held for use in Europe. Not sure how true that is though.

The law in Germany has been there for a while now.

The simple fact is, the sale of winter tyres in this country was tiny until a month ago. There just wasn't the stock in this country to cope with demand.

I expect there will be loads available in the summer lol

Basically they just didn't expect the demand the early bad weather has caused, plus of course more people are now aware you can buy winter tyres, it was unheard of in the UK a few years ago.

Prices have been masively ramped up due to simple profiteering by certain companies, with more demand than current supply. I shall not be forgetting who increased their prices massively this winter and won't be buying from them once the demand drops off.

The law in Germany is still the same, and it doesn't mandate winter tyres, it just states you should have tyres suitable for the conditions, so if you are in a crash on unsuitable tyres you can be prosecuted for not driving a car in a fit state.

winter tyres sold out in oct , all my suppliers sold out of the common sizes because everyone panic bought them before the bad weather hit, and due to this the prices have now doubled on the sizes you can get .

tbh ats and kwic fit would be the last people id even go near to get the tyres in the first place .

put it this way i had to go to germany to get some for a customer who is in the same situation as you . been promised some at another garage and when he got there they didnt have any apart from michellin when he ordered hankook .

i got some in within 2 days but it was major hassle

www.tyre-shopper.co.uk

Cheapest fully fitted/balanced/disposal tyre service I've used been using them for a few years now with no complaints. At least with this mob you pay for the tyres up front then arrange when ya want them fitted. That way even if yer tyres are sitting at the tyre shop and ya can't get in ta get them fitted they can't sell them on.

Your incorrect. In south Germany, it was law to have winter tyres in the winter season.

Only from December the 1st THIS year did it become law for ALL of Germany to have winter tyres.

Ordered winter tyres with ATS for a 4x4,
They couldn't get the two makes I wanted and offered another instead. Ordered these and they took 10 days to arrive, went down to have them fitted and found out they only delivered 3!!! took another 5 days to get the 4th, popped down to have them fitted. All seemed fine, got home and checked the model details on the internet and found out they weren't winter tyres just an Offroad tyre!!!!!

Had them removed and refunded after a massive argument, where he claimed they were, he lost that argument after asking him to show me the snowflake/moutian slope on the tyre wall, he then tried claiming they were M&S which they weren't as that was a different model of tyre!!!

Ppurchased off Camskill in the end when they had stock and they've been a godsend in the snow and ice.

Would never use ATS ever again

It is law in Germany (since the begining of Dec.) to have winter tires whenever there is snow or ice on the streets. (It's the same here in Austria)
We now found some tires in Germany close to the Dutch/ German boarder.
Wayne, thanks again for your efforts!
