Default Viewed my first scooby today. Thoughts please

Hi again guys and happy christmas for tomorrow

Went to view/buy my first scooby today.

It was a 2005 sti with ppp, and had a few extras.

68000 miles (yes i know its high) full stamped up ssh with cambelt change, 2 previous owners

The car was really nice, I was blown away by how smooth and quiet they drive. Exactly what im after.

Anyway the car in question the clutch biting point was high. Is this normal or is the clutch towards the end of its life? How much is a clutch supplied/fitted? Iv changed 2 different mr2 turbo clutches on my drive and i dont think i would do another clutch change myself.

I also noticed the owner when slowing for junctions, just before a standstill was taking the car out of gear. On one occasion I felt a judder. Could this be a fault with transmission or would you say this was normal?

If im honest I had cash with me to buy the car and would have taken it, but the guy needed it to drive back to his parents for xmas so I couldnt. At least it gives me time to step back and think about it for a bit.

Any thoughts on it guys There is a nice blue one for sale on this site, alot more money but lower miles. I dont know what to do.

Having owned a 2005 STI Type UK and now a JDM model I would recommend the JDM model.
A far better car 'out the box'.
Whats your budget?

Plenty of people take them out of gear just before junctions and just do it as force of habit to be fair. I know i certainly do it alot, probs without realising it half the time.

Might be worth getting someone who knows about these bad boys to come with you. I had mine for about 8 months and engine blow. Gutted and it was standard.

Shop around, plenty out there, the judder may just be a bad change and you feel it through the transmission, can happen but it should be pretty smooth.
A decent clutch replacement will set you back 4-500 quid, I wouldnt want to change one on my drive, put it that way

If your after a UK one, this is pretty good vfm, JDM's are better but rarer.

My budget is 10k tops. Less is always better though

Iv got my eye on the v-limited in the for sale section but its just out of my budget. Spoke to the owner earlier today and there is no movement on price

I agree with you lot it would be best to shop around and not rush into it.

Thanks for the link Tonyburns, yeah I dont think I would do another clutch change on the drive 2bh. The last mr2 one i did I ended up under the car with the box on my chest, then sort of bench pressing it back into place with a mate pushing and wiggling the other end to get the spline to go in. Proper pita, oh how great it would be to have a lifter.

I am surprised he wont budge considering you have cold hard cash but it's a great car and a bargain with a lot of goodies!

I will give him another ring before I view a different one. It does look like a very nice car but as you say there are loads out there.

If im honest the 305bhp one today did feel slower than expected so a few extra ponies should help but not too many. At the end of the day im buying the scooby as a sensible car to drive daily not a 1/4 mile beast

10k should get you one with alot less miles on it, although older (2003 plate) mine only cost £7500 with full service history with just under 50k on the clock, shop around you will find plenty of good examples.

Keep pestering the owner as £750 is not a big drop

Yeah the 05 plate was under 8k, as i said 10k max budget but less is better as it means I will have some cash left over for bits and pieces.

Feel free to pester the guy in the for sale section for me
