v5 and v6 have got the stronger gearboxes, you can ecutek the car as well so no need for seperate ecu, heads on the v5 v6 are also good, seen 470 on standard heads

Tuning to what? Power or handling?
To be honest, at the age they are now, I'd be more interested in the condition rather than which version it was.

If it is a ballistic missile you are looking for, get a type ra!

The 5 & 6 have the best engines out of the classics, the original STI has a CDB but then again has naff internals.... but since the Type R didnt start until the version 3 (deemed at the time to be the best engine subaru had produced, later bettered by the 5&6), it would still be the 5 & 6.

Version 5 and 6 were better, more tunable engines and stronger gearboxes.

No, the as I have said, the 5 & 6 are better than the 3 or 4 (also the 5 and 6 have mappable ecu's, the 3 and 4 dont, and the myth that the 3 was the best engine, pfffft, codswallop).

It also has the benefit of the sti 2.25 lock to lock rack, roof vent and all the usual type r extras.

Wont matter on the version 6 anyway, all the type R's had quick rack on that version a v limited on a 5 has quick rack but a standard 5 type R only has a fast rack

Then its been fitted after it came out of the factory, probably an old STI RA quick rack, not standard on version 5's unless its a limited (I know, I own a version 5 STI Type R and an MY03 Spec C limited )

The version three stuck in my head cos it was one of the very few times that when it was put back to back test against the evo it came out on topt.

Intercooler isn't any kind of " UPRATED OEM STAGE 2 TOP MOUNT INTERCOOLER WILL SUPPORT 400 BHP" Its not even a V5 STi intercooler, looks more like the V3/4 one

Great looking car though, sorry if ive been pick just when i spot stuff like that, i start to wonder what else is "as described"

Edit: Hasnt got a baileys BOV either?? Maybe old pictures of the engine??

Ps by no means saying its a crap car, it looks stunning and in the pics you can see alot has been spent.

The other thing that would put me off, as with any classic, is it hasnt been rebuilt yet. IMO ticking time bomb unless you have funds to allow for an inevitable rebuild? I say inevitable loosely, but if i bought another classic i would want a one that had been rebuilt by the likes of SC, API, etc etc.

Plus i just noticed the price

Bug RA was a bit lukewarm and didn't sell well or last long. It was withdrawn and the "Race Altered" moniker never re-appeared.

Subaru retired to lick it's wounds and came up with the Spec C.............. and never looked back

Version 3 heads had the "hottest" cams of the classics IIRC, having said that I'm on the lookout for some Ver 5/6 heads for my 2.5 conversion
